Kahr Arms

I haven't been on this forum in a while, but I was looking at a Kahr K-9 and K-40. The price new was around $465.00. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these pistols in the usual categories, reliability and accuracy?

    Well...i have an uncle looking at something in 9mm...how do they stack up vs like glock or springfield other similar pistols...hes just gonna shoot around with it and mabey a little idpa in a great while...any opinions or thoughts? Personal experince?

    NOTPARS, I can only tell you what I've heard from friends or other who have one. They all say that they're really reliable and good shooters. I've handled them and they feel good, but the price always drove me away. from what I understand, $465.00 would be a deal.
    MSRP is $580 and up to $700 for both guns

    These are very good fire arms. Many call them metal Glocks only the trigers are soooooo much better. My 2 cents [8D]

    A word of caution.....The Khar pistols WILL fire out of battery. I carried one as backup for several years until one day at the range. I had fired about 160 rounds through it without cleaning it that day and was doing quick magazine changes. I put the next magazine in and released the slide. When I fired the weapon it blew the extractor off, never to be found. The condition of the brass showed it had fired out of battery as the base was blown out. No injury and the company fixed it without a problem.

    Otherwise, I loved the gun. It was extremely accurate and easy to conceal and carry, even in the all steel gun.

    Dan,

    Not sure I understand how your gun fired out of battery. I've always thought "out of battery" meant like full auto but completely uncontrolled, basically the gun emptied it's magazine? Your problem sounds like you had a case rupture in the chamber?

    By firing out of battery I mean the gun will fire when the round is not completely seated in the chamber. To test this take an empty gun, open the slide a short ways and pull the trigger. If the hammer falls, the gun will fire without the round fully seated. You can do this by pulling the slide back and as you let it slowly close pull the trigger until the hammer falls. Note the position of the slide when you hear the click. A Glock will be fully closed. A Kahr will not, unless they did a redesign in the last five or so years....

    Did this happen to you mid magazine or on the first round? If it happened mid mag, I'd be scared! If it happened after loading & chambering 1st round, not to be rude, but it sounds like you had your finger on the trigger?

    I had fired about 160 rounds that day. I fired a magazine full and switched to a second magazine. I don't know if I hit the mag release or pull the slide back and let it go. It was locked back from firing the last round of the first magazine. I then aimed at the target and pulled the trigger. The back half of the cartridge blew out. I felt impact on my hands and the ejector was blown off the gun. After examining the blown case it was obvious it had not been fully seated in the chamber to sustain the damage it did. I then checked the gun to see if it would fire out of battery. I did this by emptying the gun, pulling the slide back and letting it move slowly forward while working the trigger. When the slide was still open nearly a half inch I could feel and hear the click when the bolt fell to fire the gun.

    I have also read of this caution in a gun magazine in the past. It is something that is easy to check if you have a Kahr....

    If a person is not using the gun in a situation where changing magazines is involved, such as carrying the gun loaded and no extra mag, it would be an excellant piece. If you are doing magazine changes I would recommend a tap on the back of the slide after each reload.....

    That information has been posted here on and off for a year or two. It has always been acknowledged. I would like to know if this is still the case. I would have a tough time buying anything from that slime ball no matter how the product performed. Perhaps someone will update us.
