Which AR Upper, A1 or A2?

I have a preban PWA AR clone, with an A1 upper. I'm wondering if there is anything really inherently wrong with the A1 upper, mine seems to work fine, and is plenty accurate for the kind of shooting I do. But I feel like I'm lost back in the '70s somewhere. What would be the advantages of an upgrade? Accuracy, reliability, status, what's the real advantages of an A2 upper I'm not seeing? Or should I get a CAR upper? Any other suggestions? Decisions, decisions...

  Nothing is inherrantly wrong with the one you have. But get an A3 upper flat top with the removable carry handle, that way you can mount a scope or a red dot on it! Getting an A2 upper would be like moving from the 70's into the 80's.

  yeah you can put any one of the three on there. I agree with going with the removal carry handle.

  Depends. Have you purchased all of your 'must have' guns? If not, I'd probably work on those first. If you've got them then I'd definately go with the A3 upper. Check out Ar15.com's equipment exchange for a guy who goes by Pete-in-NH. They say he has the best prices on Rock River Arms.

  I think some Russian Admiral, maybe Gorkov, said that better is the enemy of good enough. Then there's the KISS axiom, keep it simple stupid. I have an early Air Force upper (no forward assist) and have found it to be quite adequate. Any round that doesn't chamber get's ejected out. Firing continues. No fumbling with windage and elevation as it is just a simple flip sight (short range, long range).
  Then again, I prefer a standard shift automobile over an automatic. Just less to tear up.
