Ithaca Model 51 problem
I have an Ithaca Model 51 shotgun which is malfuntioning, it will fire 2 shells when the trigger is pulled. My first thought was that it might be dirty so I disassembled it and gave it a good cleaning, yet the problem persists. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem might be. Thanks.

Hello Sgt Wells,
I would start with the trigger mechanism. Check the disconnector and
make sure it's working properly. Then check the sear engagement.
Make sure the notch on the hammer and the leading edge of the sear
are crisp and sharp. If they are rounded that could be causing your
problem. Hope this gives you someplace to start.

Tip,
Thanks I took the trigger mechanism apart and it appears to be a lack of sear engagement. On further examination I found that the problem came when the trigger was relased the sear was not engaging thus allowing the hammer to fall a second time. I guess I will have to order a new hammer and trigger to fix the problem.
