Optics for Browning Safari FN Mauser bolt

I bought a browning safari 30-06 and am wondering about what the best scope/ or the best scope for the money? also scope rings... I would appreciate suggestions from the experts according to brand, power, etc. I plan on hunting Elk in CO.

  Here's my .02,I don't know how much you plan to spend on a scope but a Leupold 3-9 would be nice on a Browning.That's just my preference,Bob.

  kasey, one thing to keep in mind is a great rifle with a poor scope is junk. You don't have to spend a fortune, even though I've read where they suggest spending 60% of your budget on the rifle, 40% on the scope.
  I too really like Leupold, they're made right here in the U.S.A. and have a lifetime warranty (not that you'll likely use it).
  If you want to keep the costs down, they make a nice entry model called the VX-1 (don't get a Vari-X model in either 1 or II, but Vari-X III is great). They cost about $200, you can find them lower online, I've seen them for $170.
  If that is still too high, I've had good luck with the cheap Simmons scopes, but don't generally use them on anything that recoils much. The biggest thing I've got one on is my .50 inline muzzleloader and it is a 2x7x32 and I gave $100. Its clarity is more than fine for the 100 yards shots with muzzleloaders.
  I'd either buy an el-cheapo and save up for another one later, or just get a good one now. Remember too that the mounts and rings are just as important as anything else (maybe more so).

  Bambi hunter has it backwards. We wont go into percents but you should pay more for the scope than the gun. Optics is the last place you want to scimp on quality. Having a $100,000 rifle does no good at all if you cant see your target. A few have mentioned leupold scopes. My advice is leave them alone. Quantity produced has cut into their quality. A lot of people are lupie loyals but I will never own one. Used my friends rifle last year outfitted with a 4.5-14x50 vxIII. Not very clear and the light gathering sucked. For your rifle I would suggest a kahles scope. Please dont buy without giving them a look. The LPS wich is supposed to be lupies top scope doesnt even come close. Yes the euro glass costs but they are well worth the money. And for elk hunting you need a scope that is bright and crystal clear. Because chances are most of your elk encounters will occur in the dark timber where clarity and brightness are necessities. As for a power range I would say 3-10x50 with a 30mm tube.

  What about Shepherd scopes? I was in Cabella's and that was one of the preferences with the SALESman. Of course it wasn't cheap at Cabellas...around $600...

  Since you're looking at scopes, give the Ziess, Bouch&Loumb and Swarofski's a look. Yes,they are expensive, but they are top notch.
  Just a thought.
