S&W 422 front Site HELP

When my 422 came back from a factory repair the front site had been filed down too much ie, shoots high. Since the site is cast into the gun what is a good way to add to the site.

I've thought about drilling and installing a screw and molding it with a file, and then I thought about something like JB weld. I've repaired intake guide vanes with Duvcon and had good success.

Ideas please...except send it back to S&W.[xx(]

  Smoky14, did S&W file the sight for you? I'd chew them a new one if they did... Is yours the target model with an adjustable rear sight? I assume if it is, then you've already adjusted it. You also might be able to file the rear sight some too. If all these fail, yes, you should be able to fill and file the front to build it up as needed. I think I'd use some kind of Since you might have a time getting it to match, you could maybe use the lumiscent (sp) paint on it when finished...
  These are great guns... I have both a 422 target, and 622 target. I want to get a 2206 to complete the collection soon.

  Bambi: Yes it was done by S&W. I've had the gun back to them 3 or 4 times for failure to run ie, won't feed,extract,eject,split cases and shot all over the place. They changed the barrel the last time and filed the front site...too much. The back site, adjustable, has precious little left to remove so I must raise the front.
  
  Any tips? I don't have as high an opinion as you do of the 422 because of the total lack of service from the folks at the Houlton facility. I finally got it to run myself using care and patience. I think they could have done the same since they are the experts.

  I bought my 422 used back in about 92 or 93. I have shot brick after brick through it and had nothing but pleasure with it. My 622 on the other hand, I bought brand-new and if I tighted the grip screws all the way tight then the slide doesn't close correctly all the time. Why the grip screws should mess with the slide I'll never know...
  I would call S&W and rip them a new one... they shouldn't file the sights, since when do they adjust the sights as part of their repair? Especially with built-in sights like these. I'd think they'd replace it.
  That said, maybe you are so sick of it being gone that you just want to do it yourself - understandably...
  I would use JB Weld or other type metal-hard epoxy. O'reilly's sells a stuff that is kinda like JB that is thicker and you can knead it with your fingers and shape it and stick it to the original. I'd tape off the parts you don't want it to stick to and maybe sand the finish lightly to make sure it adheres to the metal (alloy).
  Sorry to hear you've had such bad luck with it. It truely is one of my favorite pistols to shoot.
