auto ordnance thompson

Does anyone have any information on the auto ordnance 1927 a-1? I have at long last decided to buy one but I've read that they were not very reliable shooters. Is the Kahr Arms better than the older west hurley models? Which one is more reliable? I hope someone can help before I make an expensive mistake. Thanks,

  Expensive mistake? Listen, if money is a concern to you, walk away. NOW! Any Thompson is an expensive toy, nothing more. They have absolutely no practical value; they are just fun guns to shoot.
  
  I'm unaware of any reliability problems with the Auto Ordinance guns, but I believe that you can only use 10 rd stick magazines. To me, part of the fun of a Thompson is being able to fire off a 50 or 100 rd drum.

  They are a fun gun to shoot. I have the 1927 A-1 with both the 10 and the 50 rd drums. Also have stick mags; have had no problems with any of them--other than spending a lot of time refilling the mags. If you have the disposable cash, enjoy.[:D]

  The quality has been variable on these guns from the beginning. Sometimes it takes a lot of tuning to get them to run. From what I read on machinegunbooks.com, the Kahr appear to be a bit worse than the older West Hurley guns.
  
  Any M1927A1 will accept the drum magazines. It is the M1A1 that will not. The semi-automatic M1927A1 and M1A1 will accept any original stick magazines of any capacity, but the magazines must be modified because the latch height is off about 1/10-inch. Rather than ruin original magazines so they can no longer be used in full-auto guns, it is recommended that the latch on the semi-auto guns be modified to accept the unmodified magazines. Poor magazine fit is often the reason for unreliability.
  
  I agree with Neal that these are mostly just a toy, although with a 100-round drum on a gun that runs, I think it would be a serious close-range defense gun! The drums are now worth more than the guns.

  I have the 1927 with stick mag. that I have had for about 20 yrs. I have not shot it in about 10 yrs. but when I did it worked fine. It is a lot of fun and I get a kick out of seeing the look on the other guys faces when I take it out of the truck. If you want one, get one life is to short not to have all of the toys you want.
