SAR-3 Mag Question
I have 3 Bulgarian 5.56X45 mags. They will not insert into my SAR-3. The metal mags that came with the SAR-3 work great. Sooo what is the issue with the Bulgarian mags?

The SAR-3 uses its own special magazine (available from CDNN and a few other places). The Bulgarian mag will fit the Bulgarian 223 AK and I believe the Norinco as well. Look for 223 AK mags advertised as "SAR-3 only". If you get in a pinch locating them drop me an e-mail.[:D]

The old which mag goes with which trick.
Ok, the mags you have that dont fit are possibly SAR-2 mags for
5.45x39. Easy to confuse the 2, both are red bakelite's & real close to same size.
I have bakelites in 7.62,5.54 & .223, easy to confuse them.
Been there done it.

I was told that the DDR was trying to sell the Weiger (East German AK) to India. The Indians wanted the Weigers in .223 and 30,000 +/- magazines were made. The Indian goverment decided to go elsewhere and about the same time the Berlin wall came down. The magazines ended in the U.S. The SARs were designed to take the magazines. I think the SAR-1 takes 7.62X39, the SAR-2 takes 5.45X39 and the SAR-3 takes the surplus .223 Weiger magazines. 0 -
I have a SAR-3 and bought 2 Norinco metal mags and they wouldn't work, so I took my dremel tool and in about five minutes of grinding made them work perfectly. Compare the top of your current SAR 3 mags to the others you have and you will see that they need a little grinding to fit. The grinding does not have to be perfect for them to function good. I have never had a feeding problem out of the modified mags and I believe they will still work in a Norinco AK. 0 -
CDNN of Abilene, Texas, Phone 800-588-9500 lists 30 round East German steel magazines for the SAR-3 available @ $19.95. They also show Norinco .223 14 round magazines for $14.99- perhaps these could be modified as jltrent suggests.
