ComLanber / Lanber 2097 and 2098

Can some tell me how the ComLanber / Lanber Model 2097 and Model 2098 O/U Shotguns would rate on a scale of 1 to 10, if the Browning and / or Beretta O/U shotguns rate as a 10 on the scale.

  Hello WD and welcome to Gun Broker. First off I would have to say that your scale is pretty well useless as you name the exact Lanber shotguns you are interested in but fail to give a corresponding model shotguns for either Browning or Beretta. There are numerous Beretta models available and they range in price dramatically- some of these are extemely high quality firearms with prices to match. I would also hasten to add that if you would rate a Browning at a level of ten then you leave nothing for such shotguns from Perazzi, Merkel, Krieghoff, the higher grade Berettas and many other top grade manufacturers who produce shotguns well beyond the levels that Browning is willing to market.
  
  Both of the Lanber models which you mention are designed for sporting clays. The 2097 is pretty much a dolled up Model 87 with 30" tubes and 3" chamber as standard, with added features for clays such as a wider rib, vented center rib, a 14.5" pull, and a special white bead. You also get 5 screw in chokes. These are nice shotguns and while I shoot only trap and skeet I am sure that the Model 2097 would serve you well. The 2098 is a horse of a different color as this is the top of the Lanber line imported into this country. This model has engraved side plates, a higher grade of walnut for the stock and forearm and deluxe hand checkering. The forearm also does away with the typical Scnabel and replaces it with a wider competition type. The fit and finsih on this model is a cut above the others in the line, but of course this comes at a 100% increase in retail price.
  
  I have owned a few Lanbers and have often fired other Lanbers while traveling through Europe where they are very popular. This maker was relatively unknown in the USA a decade ago and had very limited distribution in this country. Times have changed and Lanber his made a big impact in the US shotgun market with high quality and resonable prices. Many of us who enjoy high grade shotguns consider the Spanish makes such as Garbi and AyA to be the equal to or in many cases better than the finer grade of Italian shotguns...at prices more realistic. The Spanish gunmaker know how to build fine shotguns and were producing top quality firearms long before the Japanese (where most Browning shotguns are now built) ever got involved in sporting arms manufacture.
  
  When the Lanber 2098 is compared to a typical Browning clays gun I think the Lanber comes out ahead in value. Of course if you wish to purchase something along the lines as a Browning XS then all bets are off as these are top of the line shotguns- with prices to match! I would also mention that farther down the line the Browning will hold onto more of its value than the Lanber, but only you can determine which is more important to you: a lower cost for shooting today or paying more money up front to get more cash back farther down the road. I would need to know the exact Beretta models you are considering in order to comment on that manufacturer.

  Thanks for the reply... Yes you are right about my scale, and the other manufacture of other high grade shotguns that I didn't even think about.
  
  The models of Browning I was wanting to compare the 2 Lanber Models 2097 and 2098 to, are the Browning Citori White Lightning, Citori Lightning and the Citori Lightning Sporting models. Any feed-back would really be welcome.
