Judge Colt - Please

I feel like those of us who need your expertise should be able to flash a signal in the night sky like the mayor of Gotham City used to do when he needed Batman.

Python, serial #92xxxE. Just acquired and I can't get over the fit and feel. Question: On the top strap, app. 1" forward of the rear sight, is what appears to be a very tiny pin hole. "Hole" is correct as I can see daylight through it. Am I missing a pin? If not, what is the purpose of the hole? Thanks in advance.

  I am not Judge Colt nor I would never pretend to have the same wealth of knowlege as his honor in the subject of Colts. I do however own a few Pythons as well as other Colt DA revolvers, including one Python in your serial number range (14XXXE). Is the hole you are refering to the cross pin which retains the front portion of the rear sight? This is a roll pin and you can indeed see day light through it. The rear sight is held in place by this pin and the elevation screw. I notice that my Trooper, Diamondbacks, and Peacekeeper all have this same roll pin. Quite frankly I never paid a bit of notice to this pin until this momment.

  Thank you MC for the kind words, but from what I have seen, your knowledge is vast, while mine is often just half-vast.
  
  While the question is a bit hard to understand (to me, "top strap" means the TOP strap, whereas the hole MC mentions is in the SIDE of the top strap), I think MC has provided the answer. You should be able to see the roll pin in the hole if you closely. I wonder if the early guns had a solid pin? I will have to dig out an older one to see next time I am in the safe.

  Judge Colt;
  Just a quick note,I Have a early Python. It is a 4"
  and does indeed have a solid pin in the rear sight. It was producted in 1960. The Colt Python is hands down my favorite revolver,,,Period.
  In my opinion there is NO finer double action in the world. But then,I might be a little prejudice. LOL.

  I believe that particular design change took place in 1969.

  Dang, I thought I could at least ASK a question properly since I wouldn't pretend I could answer one. Anyway, yes, JC, the hole is on the side of the top strap.
  
  MC - So even though I can see daylight I shouldn't be concerned?
