Info on this old firearm

I was once told it was a Krag but I would like to know a little more about it and it's value.

  Appears to be a Danish Krag, Sir. 8 x 58mm Rimmed,was the cartridge it was chambered for.
  They made many variations, if you could give us some detail on the barrel length and the markings on your rifle perhaps we could narrow it down.

  mace1975: Welcome to the FORUMS..You got something I hav'nt seen in a Long While....
  KRAG ARTILLERY CARBINE, MODEL 1889...8mm Danish, 24" barrel. This arm has the turned-down bolt handle and a triangler upper sling swivel. It also has a stud on the left side of the stock which was used to Hang the carbine from a leather hanger on the gunner's back...These Krags are Quite Rare and in the Condition Yours appears to be in....Worth $1000.00 to $1500.00.......Maybe even More in certain Parts of the World...The last one I saw was in Germany at a Small Gunsmiths Shop in Elsdorf, Germany...And no way was the owner going to part with it.....

  Thanks for the info guys. The gun is at my father's house and he is going to drop it off in the next couple of days. I will get more info then. Captain Kirk, I think the barrel length is longer than the 24" you mentioned. I would guess it is over 30". I'll measure it when he brings it over.

  O.K., 1889 Calvary Rifle, 1889 Artillary Carbine, 1889 Infantry Carbine, 1889 Engineer Carbine, The Sniper Model, was the Altered 1889 Calvary Rifle..and the 1889 Calvary Rifle..
  Infantry Carbine has 24" Barrel
  Engineer Carbine has Barrel shortened to 23.6" Barrel to accomodate the Muzzle Cap And had the Letter "I" before the Serial Number.....
  Artillary Model Carbine has 23.6" for Barrel Length...Generally simular to the Infantry Model..
  Calvary Model has the Letter "R" before Serial Number but not fitted for bayonet.
  Sniper Model has 26.3" Barrel Model 1889/10 Rifle has the 32.78" Barrel, and the overall Length of 52.28" and weighs in at 9.5lbs. my opollogies for jumping the Gun...Thought I had it pegged when I saw the Photo...Thats why its always nice to see a Ruler or a Yard Stick next to a Gun when Photos are posted..The Rifle is only Worth $350.00/$450.00...The Carbines are at a Premium....Best.....

  Although there's no question that your rifle is a Model 1889-10. The characteristics of the stock are very interesting.
  In your pictures there is obviously a "Finger Groove" cut into the forend and what appears to be a "Brass" disc on the right side of the butt.
  These two features are supposedly only common to the Model 1889-24 Artillery Carbine!
  It makes your Rifle quite a "Question Mark", as it doesn't agree with the current reference materials. This "MIGHT" translate into extra value over and above the $350 - $450 the Captain quoted you. It depends how common this deviation is?
