short barreled shotgun
does anyone know how to go about getting a short barreld shotgun redigsterd or even maid and numberd . also can the barrel only be taxed and renumberd or the whole gun.[?]any info would be helpful thanks[:p]

I am not sure what your defination of "short barreled" is, but if I'm not mistaken the minimum length is 18", anything less requires a class III licence. I know there is an overall minimum length of the gun before it falls into the same, but for the life of me I can't remember.
I don't know for sure on this, but I am pretty sure that you have to license the whole gun as class III.
I'm sure on of the guys that either sell or own these types of firearms can give you a more specific answer...0 -
Not only do you have to comply with the GCA 68 but alo with the laws of your state and any state that you may transport or cause to be transported to any weapon that would require a class III license. 0 -

You cannot reclassify a short barreled shotgun to an Any Other Weapon. Once the firearm came from the manufacturer with a buttstock it is a shotgun PERIOD! You can have your Class II manufacturer take something like a Mossberg Cruiser (or other pistol grip OEM shotgun), cut its barrel down to 12" or so, and register it as an AOW. This is a $5 NFA transfer tax back to you. More than a few folks (including Class II's) thought that they could just add a pistol grip to an Remington 870, cut the barrel down, get an AOW out of the deal, and have the customer use the $5 NFA Tax instead of the $200- It don't work that way!

Wouldn't the whole ordeal just be better to take a pump and cut the barrel yourself to 18 1/2 and the stock off so the overall lenght is above 26"? Save yourself some hassle. And the $200. 0 -
well dident know about the stock thing so ill have to buy a cruser to do this with thanks ill contact a class 3 tomarrow and ask him what he thinks but i realy diden cair if their was a 200 or a 5 doller tax i just want to be leagle and have a short shotgun because they look cool. i was thinking about dooing it to one of thoes 12g.coach guns with rabbit ears thought it would look grate. well thanks ill continue my serch here on the home front[:p] 0 -

well i am in my thirtys and just ended an outdoor adventure kick and know i am into guns i spent about 7500 on hiking and climing gear and it is worth about 2300 now so i think that guns wont loose as much and besides just because i think a short 12g. would be cool doesent mean i am 12. you probibly think a chevelle with a big block is cool but i think they are stupid waists of mettal unlike an allwheal drive turbo 4cyl. eclips witch handels better goes faster uses less gas and produces less emissons! what i am getting at every one likes difrent things or we would all be with the same tired woman so in short their cool thats why i want one0
