G33-40 Action
I have a G33-40 Mauser action that I would like to have made into a 30-06 cal. custom hunting rifle . I would like advice on the type of barrel, barrel lenght, stock and possibly trigger to have installed. I am also torn between a synthetic stock and a select wood stock ( for looks ).If a Gunsmith is known who specializes in Mauser actions I would appreciate their telephone #. This is my first venture in having anything like this done and don't want to make a costly mistake. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Material costs
Bottom metal 0-500
Barrel 75-500 (say 175 for a quality CM)
Stock (blank) 40-500 (say 200 for decent wood or synth)
Trigger 40-250 (say 125 for a good one)
Barrel length 18-36, (22-24 is average for a -06)
Barrel conture? Pencel thin-truck axel (#3 is average)
Mounts 25-250
Optics 75-1000
Labor expenses
Stock shaping and inleting 0-1000+ (Pre-inleted B&C, or carved from a blank with ebony accent? Just how fancy do you want to get?)
Action work 0-1000+ (do nothing, trued only, trued-welded-and surface ground, fully engraved and gold inlaid? Just how fancy do you want to get?)
Assembly labor 250-750
You can toss somthing together for about 475, or you can spend your kids college funds on one. Only you can decide where you want to go, and how much you want to spend.
Advise, take your time and think about exactly what you want. Do the research, study the pictures etc.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
IF you have a proper 33/40 action with scooped out bolt handle...
If you decide not to do it or would be willing to have a non original bolt in your sporter, contact me as I am looking for a 33/40 bolt.
