I have a Remington model 7400 chambered in .270, and would like to know if I could swap the barrel with a model 742 carbine barrel chambered in 30/06. I know the magazines are the same and I was wondering if the barrels were the same? Thanks for the info 0 -
Hey Medic,
I have had excellent results with Lilja, Hart, and Shilen
barrels. They are not cheap but in my opinion are well worth
the money. Kreiger and Obermyer also make excellent barrels
for about the same money.
Personally, if I am going to spend the money installing a new
barrel- I would get a good one. If you skimp on the barrel you
could be wasting a lot of money.
Just my 2?. HTH

Also look at PacNor and Douglas barrels, as well as Kreiger. A quick search will yield the sites for each manufacturer.
You can often get a great deal on a stainless barrel blank on benchrest.com in the classified section.
You may also want to look at E.R. Shaw barrels, good prices and quality barrels. They have a helical fluted barrel that is very attractive and very ridgid with respect to it's contour size.
I personaly have 3 PacNor barrels and have nothing but good things to say about them. I have a Hart and Lilja as well, with also nothing but good things to say.
As for breaks, go to www.muzzlebreaks.com, That is the vais break site. I have a vais, and a benchrest buddy of mine has two, they are a great break as well as slightly quieter than most others.
The way I see it,If YOUR rifle shot as well as YOU say,...we wouldn't need gunsmiths.0 -

ArmyMedic,
A quick site to use for locating lots of suppliers is www.benchrest.com/sst
There are lots of catagories and suppliers. Other than that try a good search engine such as www.dogpile.com
Remember, not all search engines are firearms friendly.
