savage 550

I just received a SxS Savage 550 in 20ga with 26 inch vent rib barrel in ic/mod chock, with excelent casehardening on the receiver and like new blueing, walnut stock, press checkering and single trigger. I've looked for about a month on the three auction sites and never did find any other 550's. The question is, is the 550 older then the 311 or the other way around? Also a person told me that the 550 single trigger is the same as the FOX-BSE? Ballpark value?

  Do you mean model 530? I have never seen or heard of a model 550.The model 530 was made from 1936 to 1942.

  Thanks for the reply! But I went and looked to make sure and it is a Savage Arms 550.

  The B B, says that your 550 was made by "VALMET" for Savage. This was for only two years (1971-1973). It notes that it's "Rare". In light of that statement the values the B B puts on the 550 seem ludicrous.
