What is the most reliable pistol ever made? and what tests were done if any many thanks

  Has any one fired over 5000 rounds with out a malfunction, and what was the longest between cleanings? Thanks to all

  Well, most people might say the 1911 and its better clones but thats a bunch of horsepoop. My vote would be for some of the pistols made by Heckler and Koch. The USP series comes to mind. I have personally put over 2000 rounds of many different brands of .45 in +p types, jhp, regular ball, etc... Not a single problem. No jams, nothing.

  Now this is a loaded question. Most reliable? Semi Auto? Singel Action? Revolver? Double Action? Single Shot? Soooooo many different choices. Maybe you can narrow the field a little.

  I'm with gap on that answer. My $0.02 is that revolvers are intrinsically more reliable than semi-autos; they don't have the feeding or stove pipe problems which can occur with even the most reliable semi-autos. And I'll throw out some horsepoop ([;)]) and say the M1911 is as good as it gets for reliability with a semi-auto. There are others just as good.

  Thompson Contender--Single shot, hammer weapon. Now for reality- Revolver over automatic, right hand cylinder rotation over left hand rotation (except breaktops). Probably Dan Wesson or Colt.

  I bought a K-22 with a 6 inch bbl from a local shooting gallery in the late 60's. It fired only .22 short Gallery loads in it. The owner had bought it in the very early 1950's so it had about 20 years of 7 day a week service. He had records for ammunition purchases and estimated it had over a million rounds thru it. The gun had the grips replaced many times and it was refinished twice and ready for a third when I got it. He claimed it had no repairs at all. Many "gallery" guns in those days had similar records including the gallery .22 rifles. I kept the K-22 for several years and the only problem I had was corrosion in the chambers from firing the .22 shorts. It caused long rifle ammunition to stick a bit. I could have replaced the cylinder and done away with it, but the problem didn't bother me. I had the gun parkarized and sold it. It still shot fine.

  I'm going to have to say my sig 229 has been the most reliable pistol I have ever owned. Still own many different 1911s & clones including Detonics & Kimbers, but nothing compares to reliability of the Sig .40

  Revolver over semi-auto all day long, after now identifying the stronger of those two, I'd choose a colt or a ruger in the revolver.

  1911, Makarov, or Glock. All are designed to function well even when a little "less than clean"[;)]
