Ruger 1022 feeding problems?
I've experienced a series of feeding problems using aftermarket high capacity magazines. Some work and some don't. Factory magazines always work. I have heard that there are some 1022's that will not accept high capacity magazines. Is this true? If so; how? I called Ruger and they informed me that the rifle has been the same since the beginning, maybe some cosmetic changes, but none to the internal components. Gunsmiths I have spoken to agree. I think that no rifle is built exactly the same. I believe that there must be unintentional manufacturing discrepancies, causing this problem. What do you think?

Not a problem with the rifle. Definite problem with the magazines. Most of the aftermarket high-cap plastic mags are crap. Stick with the mags with metal feedlips, and remember that cheap is not necessarily the best way to go. 0 -
When I was in high school and just after(late'70s early'80s) we played with hi-cap 1022 mags. Seemed like some brands worked and some did'nt. Butler Creek worked, I really don't remember any other brand names good or bad. I have four myself, these are 25rd. mags.. I don't remember a 50 rounder that worked right at all. At today's prices I'm glad I'm not looking for any now. Just my opinion.

Hey Evermore, I have a Ram-Line 25 rounder that works pretty well most of the time, but I wouldn't buy another. Check out a site called elmfg.com.
They make a dual and a quad adapter that both hold either 2 or 4 standart 10 round Ruger mags. At least the Ruger mags work all the time. Good Luck

Evermore, this can be said about every firearm/magazine combo out there-most aftermarket(AM) high-cap mags are a hit & miss affair, it's been my personal experiance that about 14 out of every 15 AM mags are unreliable or worse.
Factory mags usually command a premium price because they are the most reliable.
As far as some 10/22's not accepting hi-caps-No way. Never heard of such a thing.

Some after markets are just rough around the leading edge where your cartridge is fed up into the chamber. Just some minor polishing on some - filing on others. Compare the after markets to the original and you can see what needs to be cleaned up.
