I WOULD LOVE SOME INFO FROM ANYONE WHO HAS ANY INFORMATION ON A GEORGE ALEP BLUNDERBUSS. ITS FRENCH I THINK AND IS 17.5 INCHES LONG AND VERY ORNATE. I KNOW NOTHIN ABOUT IT AND WOULD LOVE SOME HELP!

  HI YALL,
  
  I'M GONNA KEEP TRYIN TO STUMP YALL. LOL
  NOT REALLY, BUT I AM TOTALLY STUMPED ON
  THIS LITTLE SHORT WEAPON THAT A FRIEND OF
  MINE HANDED ME. HERES MY THOUGHTS ON IT.
  ITS A BLUNDERBUSS 16 INCHES IN LENGTH AND
  THE BARRELL IS 8 INCHES AND SAND CASTED BRASS
  WITH A 2 INCH FLARE ON THE END.THE FORE STOCK
  AND REAR STOCK IS INLAID WITH BRASS WHAT
  APPEARS TO BE FLAT BRASS WIRES.
  I KNOW YOU REALLY CAN'T BE THAT SURE WITHOUT
  A PIC AND I'M ASKING ALOT BUT I KNOW AT LEAST
  1 OF YA CAN AT LEAST POINT ME IN THE RIGHT PLACE
  TO LEARN ABOUT IT.
  
  I'M GONNA GET A DIGTAL CAM SOON AND U CAN SEE THIS
  ITS SHARP AS HELL.
  
  AND I KINDA BELIEVE IT MIGHT BE PORTUGESE
  BUT I AM MOST LIKELY WAY OFF AFTER ALL I AM BLONDE.

  Your sketchy description seems to be of a piece common to the Mediterranean area which could mean North Africa to maybe Turkey. Most of those as described are not weapons at all but are tourist souvenir pieces. Some do have some nice workmanship. Some have flint or miquelet locks that work, some have locks without the internal parts. Other than showing it to someone who is knowledgeable such as a collector or dealer of antique guns, as you say, not much else without a picture.

  Whit out pictures it is hard to tell what exactly you have. The inlaid wire. length, & brass barrel does lend truth that it is of Mediterranean area,North Africa, Turkey, Spain, or Portugese. It very well could be a non-firing tourist piece. Check to see if the barrel is on the breeck plug really tight. Most tourist pieses have a very wide and noticeable crack between barrel and breech plug. It could be a pirate piece. The length suggests that it was meant to be used as a handgun rather than shoulder fired. I would not try to fire it with even just a powder charge without having it checked by a gunsmith. If you post some pictures it could help in figureing out what it is.[8D]

  HI,I'VE GOT ONE MUCH THE SAME,ITS PROBABLY ARABIC, 1765 ERA IF ITS FLINT,WORTH AROUND $400 AND UP. SOLD MINE TWICE ON YAHOO AND NEITHER ONE PAID UP. BUT I'M SURE THEY MEANT WELL.[V]

  Without seeing the peice it is impossible to say exactly what you do have. With an obvious sand cast barrel, I would think that you have a modern made tourist piece. I have seen these offered for sale from one end of the Mediterranean to the other. If you paid as much as $400 for this thing you paid way to much.
