hart barrel question

does anyone know why hart does not stamp any serial numbers on their
barrels. //

  Neither do Shillen or A&B, do any of the barrel makers?. It would be pointless anyway, as the end's get cut off when being fitted to the rifle, and the OD is often turned to match the custumers specifcations, which would remove any SN they put on them.

  serial numbers are on the receiver of the firearm, the barrel is simply a replacement part. If your barrel from any manufacturer, fails to perform, the gunsmith sends it back for analysis, and upon determination of it's being cut or buttoned incorrectly, it is replaced at no charge. No need for a serial number.
  
  I beleive that by testing the rockwell hardness and composition of the blank, the manufacturer can tell if it was a barrel that came from a "lot" of their steel and not some other manufacturer. That negates the need for any identifying numbers. Also, as tailgunner stated, the rear and front portion are often trimmed to begin the barreling process, as well as the blank is always "turned down" to the size of the contour specified by the customer. The lathe would remove any serial number that had been originaly stamped in the blank.
