Colt 32 Cal. Auto

I own a Colt 32 Cal. Automatic(belonged to my Grandfather who died in 1935)in good condition..patent dates:04/22/1897-12/22/1903, ser.#35xxxx. Would appreceiate any info as to current value.

  Hi lousordo, wecome to the forumn! You'll find that the guys(and girls) are always nice and sometimes funny and helpful. That said, to answer your question, I'd say $350.they've gone up alot because of interest in all things COLT! I've owned several in .32 and they all worked well, and were surprizingly accurate. If it were my grandfather's I wouldn't sell it for anything.

  This sounds like a Type III pistol to me (does it have walnut stocks?). There was a change from hard rubber in around 1924. In decent shape I'd agree with the value Old Hickory gave you...maybe a bit more. These are fine little automatics and there are few pistols on the market today as well made as these old Colts. Since it belonged to your grand father I suggest that you hang onto it and pass it along through the family. These guns will only continue to rise in value as Colt guys (and new collectors enter the market every day) can just never get enough of these pre war automatics.

  Thanks for your input...my grandfather was a medical doctor in the Cuban police force in the early 1900's prior to being commissioned in the Army. My dad, who is now 88, gave me the Colt last year, he never fired the pistol, told me he thought it was time to pass it on. I have never owned a pistol, although I do own a pre WWII Winchester Mod. 12 shotgun that I understand has some value now,so my curiosity got the best of me regarding the Colt due to its age. Again, I want to thank you for your response.
