Browning A-5 value ???
I was just given a Browning 12ga. Magnum 32" barrel. It's in very good condition, just wondering how much its worth. I hope to take it duck hunting next year, but I don't want to mess it up if it's rare.

Let me assure you that A-5's are about as unrare as anything on the market. That doesn't mean they aren't appreciated... Just that there are lots of them out there.
I assume a Japanese gun since you supplied no information to the contrary. Further, I assume the field gun.
Depending on your area of the country (and it really does matter), the gun in new condition will bring somewhere in the $500.00 range. Perhaps a bit more with a vent rib, but not a lot. Belgian guns knock down an extra hunderd dollars just because they're Belgian.

Thanks Nord, now I can shoot it and not feel guilty. Ducks Beware !!! 0 -
goldslammer, I suggest you check with a gunsmith or someone who can tell you if it is safe to shoot steel shot in that gun. I know it is recommended that steel shot not be shot in some older guns. I don't know whether the bismuth shot can safely be shot in the older guns. 0 -
Another thing is to make sure the recoil rings are in the correct position, if the rings are not properly seated for mags it will not eject properly. If you do not have an owners manual you can contact the Browning people in Utah and they will send you one. They are nice shooting guns and you will enjoy it. 0 -
YOU DID NOT SAY IF THE GUN HAS TUBES. ALSO DOES YOUR GUN HAVE A VENT RIB??? IF YOUR GUNS HAS THESE ITEMS IT SURE WILL BE WORTH MORE THAN $500.00
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0 -
If the A-5 has a FULL choke barrel or choke tube do NOT shoot steel shot. The value probally 500 to 700, the mags usually had nice wood. I prefer the japanes guns over the belgiums, SAME gun, BETTER METAL, so you can shoot steel shot from a japanese barrel. If you need a japanes barrel check browning or cabelas so you can shoot steel shot, and enjoy the gun and the duck hunting..the A-5 is the best gun made.

Guys, thanks for the info. The gun is a full choke, 32" Magnum. I will not use steel shot for fear of damaging the barrel. The barrel is vent rib and says "Made in Belgium". I'll try it with Bismuth shot and see how it works. Thanks Again, Sam 0 -
An A-5 mag with vent rib in very good to excellant condition are going for 1000 dollars up around gun shows here in S.C. 0
