Desert Eagle XIX or VII
What are the basic differences in these two models - how do you tell one from the other? Is there a model somewhere on it?

The mk VII was made on different size frames for each caliber. The only frame which would accept all other caliber barrel/slide and bolt assemblies was the 50AE, the others could only be changed to the caliber below the original.
The MK XIX, is made on the 50AE frame from the start, and subsequently any barrel/slide and bolt assembly can be added to change the caliber.
I beleive the trigger was also refined/changed and seem to recall a change to the safety as well.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

You can buy the Slide Release & Safety Lever Kit and the Adjustable Trigger Assembly to convert the Mark 1 to the VII.

General Features/Mark XIX & Mark VII
The Desert Eagle Pistol is a gas-operated, semi-automatic pistol with a rotating bolt for positive lock-up.
The barrel is locked in place, assuring a high degree of accuracy. Maximum effective range with the standard 6-inch barrel is 200 meters (650 ft.).
The polygonal rifling reduces barrel wear and enhances the obturation between the bullet and the bore, thus increasing accuracy.
Anatomically formed grip, ideal hand seating angle and comfortable grip dimensions permit rapid, accurate, instinctive shooting. The combat-type trigger guard is designed for two-handed shooting.
The Desert Eagle Pistol fires standard factory ammunition.

General Features/Mark XIX
The 7/8" dovetail rib on the barrel has cross slots to accommodate scope rings (available as an option). This integral scope base means no additional mounting hardware is required.
Safety/Mark XIX & Mark VII
The safety is ambidextrous - it can be operated by right-handed and left-handed shooters. When the safety is on, the firing pin is blocked, disconnecting the trigger bar from the sear at the same time. Extensive tests in accordance with military specifications include drop tests that show the Desert Eagle is safe from accidental firing.

Actually the info provided by Bambi Hunter is not completely accurate. The MK XIX does have the ability to take all of the calibers by utilizing the same frame and same slide. You need only to change the bolt when converting to .357, the .44 and .50AE take the same bolt. In each case you must of course change the barrel, recoil springs, and the magazine. That is on the MK XIX.
On the MK VII you can convert from one caliber to another but you basically are replacing the entire top end. The .44 frame of a MK VII will accept a .50AE slide, barrel, and mag and you then will have a .50AE gun. They changed the barrel and the bolt design on the .50AE and the entire MK XIX series. The frame remained basically the same. The way the grips attached was different however on the US made guns. A MK VII bolt will not mate to a MK XIX barrel and vice-a-versa.0 -
lrarmsx, I never actually said anything about barrel swapping. JustC did, and the best I can tell he was accurate. He did say all other calibers required thier own frames, I'm not sure of this, but I do know the .44 and .41 mags worked interchangably (I had them both).
The XIX model is based off of the original .50AE VII frame and also takes the dovetail off the original .50 with the cross-slots for the scope.
kallard1, I'd just email Magnum Research directly for more in-depth answer to your question. They have a form to fill out on thier site for questions... Simply put, unless you get an absolute steal, I'd only buy the XIX model. That way you have all the latest enhancements plus barrels and accessories are still being made and will be easier to find.
You won't be sorry with the Desert Eagles... If you get one, it'll make you smile every time you pull the trigger - at least until you have to reload and see dollar signs. [;)]0 -
I'm not trying to pick any fights, I just have had MK VII that was in .44 and the guy bought a .50AE upper complete and it worked just fine. Also I have personally compared the MK VII vs. MK XIX slides, barrels, and bolts. The bolts and the barrels are exclusive to one another, from one series to the other. I haven't asked Magnum Reseach, I have just done the "hands-on" thing. I'm reasonably sure they won't recommend any kind of mix and match. All I know is that I have handled ones that were and worked just fine. Again, there are only certain combinations that will work. 0 -
lrarmsx, I'm not either... It's all cool. I had 2 Mark VII's (.41 and .44 mags) and they were completely interchangable.
The info below is directly off of Magnum Research's site about the XIX (they don't give much info about the VII anymore, just what I listed above). They did show that all the frames listed have the same height, width, and weight specifications on the XIX, but on the VII, the weight and height specs are different between the .357 and .44's. I do know they current XIX is based off of the .50AE, and all the calibers, incorporate the cross slots. They told me only the .50AE in the VII series did...
The Platform

The Desert Eagle Pistol
The Mark XIX Desert Eagle Pistol offers true interchangeability. Six different pistols are available - .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, or .50 A.E., each with a 6-inch or 10-inch barrel. Purchase one pistol and you have the platform to build the other five with a simple switch of components.

There is no differences, same as Mark XIX. What happen was when we first produced the .50AE pistols we called them the Mark VII series, but as we changed the .357 and .44 to share the same slide assembly as the .50AE we decided to call this series the Mark XIX.

Thanks for all the info - I emailed Desert Eagle with SN, they responded within 12 hours - it is a VII.
