Isnt it illegal to own or use a silenced weapon of any kind?
I think you can sell them if your a class 3 FFL dealer...

Back in 1934, the govermint decide that using a silencer for plinking the neighbor's cat, or the odd crow was a bad idea and made it harder to be able to do. The National Firearms Act, or NFA also set up rules for destructive devices like mortars, cannon, grenades, and set up classes of bad guns like the infamous AOW, or Any Other Weapon.
It is still possible in most places to buy, own and use a suppressor if you are willing to do the Stupid Human Tricks involved.
"They" will need a few copies of your fingerprints, sworn certification from your local LEO Honcho, thorough background probe,... and I think you get the picture. Be willing also to spend about $3500 before it's all said and done.
That being said; it's probably illegal to stick a potato on the barrel to take out a rival crack dealer, too.
All an enterprising experimenter needs is some duct tape and a 2-liter to run afoul of the "They" out there.

$3500 seems pretty steep for a silenced firearm...unless you are purchasing a High Standard HD-MS, a silenced machinegun, or some other type of collectable curio and relic. By using a ATF Form 1 and paying the $200 NFA Tax you can make a pretty effective .22LR silencer yourself. We have a GB member who lives in Greenland who did this sort of thing himself (no tax or permission needed in Greenland)and I was impressed with the results of his efforts.
Most of the good "cans" here in the USA retail for well under $1000. Whether or not you can possess a silencer depends mostly on the state in which you reside. Even then many state fish and game regulations will bar the use of silenced firearms for general hunting purposes, although silenced varmint rifles are often used in game culling and predator dispatching by pros. There are lots of private individuals who enjoy using silencers and most models and designs are pretty effective when correctly matched to the firearm and caliber you select- although it is never like you see in the movies.

Allthough it's only for a .22LR Ansh?tz bolt action rifle, it looks neet with a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6*42 scope on it - as it is now. =o)
This is a page, where I've converted a MagLite 3D-cell flashlight to a quite handsome and very effective silencer.
If you use "Standard"-speed cartridges (projectiles that travel below the speed og sound), like CCI Standard - it doesn't make much sound at all - all there is is the click from the firingpin. =o)

OOPS, forgot to mention, that I've threaded about 20-25 rifles and test fired every rifle with the new silencer myself.
Usually with heavy bullets, to see if the silencer could take it.
Most rifles, from .22 magnum to .30-06 - makes about the same noise with a silencer fitted and regular highspeed ammo - as a .22LR High-velocity without one makes.
A .243 seems all quiet with standard high-velocity ammo, but still makes the noise somewhere around a .22LR.
It's the same with bigger rifles, I had a Mossberg .270Win.
It was a pleasure to shoot with a silencer and regular 180grain bullets - but made a roar with a muzzlebrake.(Yes, that's the opposite of a silencer - or seems so for the person who shoots it.)
A friend of mine dealt with weapons and silencers, I fitted and testfired them.

Jeff's Shooter Supply in Trussville AL sells new suppressed 10/22 Rugers for $599 and Ruger 96/22 for $649. Of course, you have to pay the $200 for passing go and the paper work. 0 -

Mark has this one pretty covered (as usual!). Blake must have one heck of a nice piece for $3500., and as a custom rifle he just may well have. Just check the class III section of GB for others. Rugers are plentiful. I have one for my Walther P22 and it is sure effective. The ones for bolt or lever actions are even more so. The semi action make noise too. The most important thing is to do this legally. A $200. stamp is cheap compared to being caught with an illegal one. The other question is why bother. They have little practical use. I have one just because I like unusual things. I guess making your own would give satisfaction enough. Be careful buddy.

It depends on where you are. The daftest thing is that some States allow suppressors but no Full Auto, others allow FA but no suppressors, some both and some neither. If your State says you can have a suppressor you're looking at $400USD and up plus the $200 federal tax. Yes, it does very much depend on which state you live. About 2/3 of the states do allow them. ATF will give you a permit (but I don't think it is a class 3, just a silencer permit) to own one, but only if you live in a state where they is not banned, but I think if you are a class 8 manufacturer, you can build them wherever you are.

I'm pretty sure that when Doc Dater was in the middle of fabrication of one of his "cans", that if you asked him how much trouble or fun suppressors can be; he'd have let you shoot his IJ TP22 into the sand-filled drum to find out.
Now that Sionics has the market cornered, the prices could drop; however, still plan on around $3500 to grease all the locals, the county, the state AG (here in 505 country, they ALL want "mordida", or "the bite" to help you), and pay the tax plus the purchase price.
I really like the Mag-lite idea.....wonder if brass screen prices wil go up?

Suppressor's are on Sale!
Just bought one for a M-10 $99.00 + $200 NFA tax.
These are just the suppressor's no gun included.
M.Evans Howell, of Atlanta Ga. sells Coastal suppressor's, I think I saw the 10/22 cans for $69.00 or $89.00.
On pistols some wont cycle, therefore you got a single shot.

Most cans get dirty real quick & the degradation of the suppresion is
quick.
Kind of a pain after a while, but real neat toy at first.
