I have an old Winchester Model 42 .410 pump shotgun, serial # 6428. It looks like a basic grade, somewhat worn but still very functional. One chip out of the stock. What would a gun like this be worth?

  My 1999 Blue Book gives a value of $450 for a gun with 60% finish and $500 with 70%. The chip out of the stock would probably lower those figures. I don't believe the prices of these guns have changed much since 1999. The are supposed to be retail prices.

  Value will vary in different parts of the country. I sold one in '98 for $700, in about the condition you describe less the chip. These are very, very collectable. I would say the bluebook values quoted are way low, at least for the SW.
