45 ACP to 38 Super
How hard would it be to convert a Government model 1911 from 45 ACP to 38 Super? I have a couple of 45's and would like to change one to 38 Super instead of buying another gun.Thanks.

The following are the minimun things you require to convert a .45 ACP to .38 Super.
1, You need a complete slide & barrel assy that was originally made for either .38 Super or 9mm.
2, You have to remove the .45 ejector from the frame of the .45 Cal. pistol and replace it with a .38 or 9mm ejector from Brownells. Perferably from one of the aftermarket suppliers, who make hardened steel ones that are a "Slip Fit" in the frame. (You don't want a ejector that is "Tight" fit in the frame.
3, Finally you of course need a .38 Super magazine.
4, Everything else is just swaping the parts around, and fitting the ejector.0 -
The best way to do it is get a Gov model 38 Super and put a 45 commander slide on it. This way you don't have to screw with the ejector.
I still have some 45 mags and a 38 super mag left over from my multi caliber Gov model.
