Need help!! 1903 Springfield
Thanks ahead of time, as always....
I got a 1903 A1 shooter so my 85 year old father-in-law could have some fun at the range. Here's the problem....
It has a front sight mounted on a 1903 A3 barrel and NO rear iron sight. I bought one just to find out that the A3 barrel won't accept the A1 sight. The A1 receiver had a scope mounted somehow....there are 4-tapped scope mount holes, but I have no idea what mount it used.
Aside from lacking enough grey matter to stay out of these fixes....what should I do to get a rear sight/scope mount???
I'm going to my room now to read up on self torture.

Whoa! Hold off on that torture! While there's life there's always hope. If it's a 1903A1 that has been rebarrelled with a 1903A3 barrel, but used to have a scope mounted on it, why not utilize the rear holes and mount a peep sight? The hole spacing may or may not work with an '03A3 peep, but chances are good that it will work with a Williams. In any event, a brief trip to your local gun shop and comparison to the hole spacing of different mounts and sights should solve your problem. 0 -
THE HOLES 'SHOULD' BE FOR THE WEAVER #59 AND 45 BASES, THESE ARE CHEAP AND EASILY MODIFIED IF THE HOLES ARE FOR SOMTHING ELSE. 0 -
Thanks! Those are two more leads than I have had to date!
I'll look into your possible solutions right away.....life CAN go on.
