Savage 23c serial no. ????

I recently picked up an old mdl.23c Today,under the steel buttplate i noticed a SN 32xxx This number is also stamped in the end of the stock.I cannot find any serial no.on the receiver of the gun.I was not aware that these particular Savage guns were serial numbered.The gun is the early type with the narrow snabel end type stock.Pre 1933.Were these early guns serial numbered this way?

  OSS:
  Savage apparently numbered the earliest 23-c's only on the butt.
  
  Somewhere between #s 33xxx and 42xxx as well as those higher they put the serial #s on the receiver on the right side between the bolt notch and ejection port.
  
  The 23-b's must have been marked like this also.
