browning FN safari questions on differentactions

I have seen different actions listed for these old bolt action guns, Mauser, Sako. Which is the difference and which is best?
Also what about the short extractor vs. the long extractor? What about the .308 for a caliber? Is that enough for elk?

  FN used commercial FN Mauser actions on the bolt-action rifle from 1959-1975, but also used Sako actions from 1961-75 on its short-action versions. To further confuse, the Mauser actions are either 'long-extractor' or 'short-extractor' (1967-1975) except for .270 and .30-06 which retained the long-extractor throughout. The long-extractor rifles used the full-length Mauser extractor which many feel superior for controlled feeding and ejection on dangerous game rifles.
  
  In general, the long-extractor FN Supreme actions are the most collectable, with the short-extractor and the Sako action rifles behind in any given grade.
  
  All are excellent shooters and all are collectable, just some more than others. Pay careful attention to originality and condition, and be aware that the salt-curing process Browning used on some stocks during this time period has caused some serious rusting damage to many fine rifles...
  
  180gr .308 Win will be fine for elk.

  Thank you Black Guns for the info on the actions. I know to beware of the salt wood years 90% of stocks from (67-69), and some up until 1972.
