270 akley improved?

I have a M-77 in 270 Win that I have been considering making into a 270 Akley improved. I assume this would be as simple as handing it over to my gunsmith so the chamber can be worked. My question is "will it be worth it"? I know that the Akley treatment did wonderful things to the 257 Roberts, but how about the 270?

  You will gain a couple hundred fps. Sort of between .270 Win and .270 Weatherby.

  thats one of those questions that really can't be answered, going to the Akley improved should give you better result but theres no guarantee, if you have a great shooting rifle that gives good accuracy and good vel. for that round, then I wouldn't do it, but if the rifle is only so so then what do you have to lose?

  I hate to see you changing caliber like that. Have you checked to see what the fps/ft#'s you would be gaining? Will the rifling be adequate for the change? Can you see the person's face, when you get rid of the gun, when it blows and busts a cartridge because he put a 270 in it, instead of the 270 Akley Improved? Why not get rid of the gun and buy the "real-thing"?

  Firing .270 Winchester ammunition in a rifle chambered for the .270 Ackley Improved is perfectly safe. In fact, that is how you make the .270 AI cases.

  Hola Doug...Que Paso Hombre...?..I think This Black Guns is Pretty Savvey...You gonna go Blast a Pig or two...? The Ackley 270 sure would help with the extra couple of FPS.....Best..,.

  Problem with the older acklety data in the manuals is that it wasn't tested very well. The newer data in the manuals is much better, and is indicative of the power that is gained. Some say 50-75fps, I say BS. It is a couple hundred, as the whole principle behind the ackley is to increase pressure, with only minimal powder increase. I have a 6.5-06AI and a 280AI. Accurate is the word, and brass life is longer as well.
  
  The way I see it,If YOUR rifle shot as well as YOU say,...we wouldn't need gunsmiths.
