Browning HP hammer problem

I recently got a great deal on a browning Hi Power 9mm 1988 manufacture date. However, after firing a round, when the hammer should stay in the cocked position, it often falls into the closed or half closed position. requiring the hammer to be fully pulled back before being able to fire again. Has anybody else experienced this, if so what should i look to do or remove/replace. Thanx for the help E Man

  the problem you described sounds like the the hammer is worn pretty well or possibly the sear is worn. not a problem for a gunsmith to repair.

  Most likely, some ignorant "gunsmith" tried to improve the trigger pull, and went too far. Replace the hammer and sear, or recut the surfaces, but that will probably put you through the hard surface and the resulting surfaces will not last as long as if original and uncut.
