AR15 QUESTION
I have a fellow who wants to trade an AR for another item I have and has given me the description below. He has two AR's for trade, but I really don't know what 6.8 SPC is, or stands for.
"I've got one in 6.8 SPC and one in 5.56/.223."
I already have an HBAR Colt, but would not mind having another to shoot, I just want to understand the difference.

Thanks for the description. Now, I need to decide if I should trade for the 6.8 or the 5.56. Since I akready have the 5.56 in the HBAR model, I may make the trade for the 6.8. Who knows, the ammo looks pricey and it may be just another "gimick" like the 45GAP. A round that may be harder to get as time goes on.

The both accept the standard AR type stuff. Some of the Olympic Arms AR's are not Mil Spec. The Armalites are. Look at the Bushmaster line. They produce Mill Spec AR's and are less expensive than the Armalites. I like the Armalites and the Bushmasters much better than the Olympic Arms stuff. My 2 cents [8D]

Ronk.... I agree with gap. I own both Armalite and Bushmaster, and they are both "mil spec" meaning they are made to military specifications.
They are very reliable, accept military mags ( as do all the AR's ) and accept any of the " add on's " you might want. The Olympics are probably OK, but I would pay the little extra for peace of mind.
When it comes to buying guns, the old saying " You get what you pay for" holds true.0 -
The plinker just looks cheap. Save up the little extra and get something better.

Check out Rock River, DPMS, or Bushmaster all 3 are much better guns in my opinion. I'm biased towards the Rock River since I have one and like it just as much as the Bushmaster I had.

RONK ...I purchased a Olympic receiver sometime ago. Probably for the same reason you looking at one now. It turned out the receiver was an "investment casting" and not a forged receiver as the military's are ...or mil spec. If your look'n for something to just go bang, the Olympics are fine, but if your want quality ...well evrybody here seems to be of the same mind. GOOD LUCK! ...Mark

My Bushmaster set me back about $900 NIB with all the add-ons and three extra mags. Seemed a little steep at the time, but having used it a lot, it was worth every penny.

I've got the Oly PCR, it's a step above the plinker. It looks good, feels good, shoots good, it's mil-spec, I've never had a problem with it and it's lower priced than the Bushmaster. I've never had a Bushmaster, so I can't give an opinion on them. I've got the Colt sp1 m4, and the Oly will outshoot it.

I also have an Olympic Arms PCR. Have put several thousand rounds thru it and it has never failed to function properly. Not a high dollar investment, but an excellent shooter for the money. My experience. 0 -
I hate to tell you guys this but Armalite AR clones are not MilSpec.
This keeps coming up.
Their barrels are not Spec steel and very few are chromelined.
Please quit posting inaccurate info based on internet babble and rumors.
Armalite is a very nice weapon though.

The Oly plinker uses a cast receiver and the flip rear sight while the more expensive Oly's use a forged receiver. I don't think a lot of people understand mil-spec and think it means interchangeable parts.
