What do I have??
Rifle with tapered brown patina barrell(not blued), has H.M.POPE stamped half way on top of barrell bore measures .305 at muzzel end, do not know the chamber size,(gun out at the moment having a chamber casting) looks like maybe a 7MM or 30-06. Right side of action stamped with three crowns with the letters R and what looks like the letters M or W under each separate crown (the M or W letters have all the beginnings or ends of the letters connected)like it could be an M or W on top of one another. Left lide of barrell has serial # 5820 and what looks like a letter C (with the bottom of the C trailing off) 20 is stamped on the end of bolt at safety end, side of bolt at lug end and on side of action beneath a left side attached Lyman sight holder that's hinged and also acts as a bolt release when pulled on one end. The safety is on the right side of bolt, lever type that is used by pulling toward shooter for safe and pushed forward for fire. A lion or a knight with a crown on head holding a sword or large knife on left side of action. Lots of engraving on floorplate trigger guard and tang. Initials DLP,or LDP,or PDL on trigger guard depending on how you lead it the letter D is predominant. Jaeger stamped on side of trigger. Action has a military type slot to feed stripper clips into the magazine. In front of action where barrell is attached is what apperar to have been a shield with scrolling around it, but the shield has been gone ofer by the engraver with a peening type engrave. It also has besidel the Lyman left side peep sight as Griffin and Howe scope side mount also on the left side with a old Weaver 3x9 CLASSIC scope. Also the bolt has about a 3/8" hole bored in the bollom of it. It's a beautiful gun with custom stock, steel engraved capped schnabel, the end of the barrell has a blade type military sight with a brass ?? pointer bead facing the shooter. The action and barrell also has been drilled in eight separate places to accept different scope bases. Please help me out on this one.

I will try to post an image but I just aquired a rifle I know nothing about, It is marked US Property on the top of the reciever and S No4 Mk1 on the side and nothing else but a serial number. Any ideas?

If it is a Number 4 mark I and is US Property marked it would have been manufacturerd at the Stevens Arms factory at Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts- a branch of Savage Arms- but Stevens non the less. Later Mark I* rifles were made by Savage- the principle difference is that the Mark I* rifles do not have the bolt head catch. British infantry weapons are not my area of expertise so others may clearly know much more about the SMLE subject.

Oh yeah, any Idea as to a value?? I picked up a bunch of guns from my brother who is geting un-married and some are very unusual to say the least, he gave me a Remington XP100 in 7mmBR with all the dies and things with it, it looks like a starwars gun, it has been all customized. 0 -
