Hi Point
I need the opinion of the group .I need a inexpensive 9MM handgun till I can buy a better gun .I saw a Hi Point ,it has avery good warrenty ,and also seemed solid. I know that the older handguns had a bad reputation ,but the new ones seem much better .Whats your views on this matter.Thank-You

Just Checked out one of the threads bashing HI POINT. I can say with some accuracy that most have not even shot one. The carbine rocks...period! After 1000+ rounds never a jam and very accurate and I will pit it against a STORM as soon as I can find some poor soul willing to schuck out the big bucks for one. I also have the compact 9mm and wow for a 100 bucks it rocks also.
Do not get me wrong I do own several SW's a few Dan Wesson's and Rugers and you do get what you pay for. But to call a HI POINT junk when it carries the best warranty on the planet no questions asked...what are you thinking?0 -
Ugly, but they seem to work. I got a new 40S&W Hi-Point from a co-worker and had no problems with it. Decent accuracy and no reliability issues. The only thing I really don't like about it is the grips have angled edges that bite when you shoot. Maybe a wraparound grip would help. It somewhere above a Jennings, yet quite aways from being a 1911. If you think its a fair trade, pick it up. It's a good plinking gun in a good caliber. Lifetime factory warranty too. If you don't think its a fair trade, save a little more $ and get a Ruger P90, a 1911, or a Witness. 0 -
Really ugly, but serviceable little guns. Got a 9mm carbine from 'em that is impressive in its' toughness, reliability, and accuracy. Only thing is, don't be in a hurry when you take it apart! Oh yeah; you can only get 10 round mags for them.

I think the 45 version is only 7 rounds. Speaking of which, when are they going to come out with a 45 carbine? That'd make the ugliness almost tolerable.[;)]

Hello, I have two of the .45ACP Hi-Points, only shot the one but NEVER had any problems with it. Just wish take down and mag. release were better.

I have one in 40 S&W and I love it. Take down is a bit finicky till you get used to it. My friend has one in 9MM, and 45 ACP and he feels the same way about his. He recently bought the 9MM carbine but hasn't had good enough weather to wring it out yet. Got a reply from the company on my inquiry about the carbine in 40 S&W. They should hit the dealers shelves next month and the price is to be in line with the 9MM. Nothing about a 45 ACP carbine though.
Before I bought my 40 I read several articles in gun magazines and they were all favorable so if your labor equals the price grab it. I don't think you will be dissappointed. nb0 -
When the Hi Point line of guns were first introduced I got a sample to try out in 9mm. I can't think of ONE good thing to say about what I SAW...however. I shot the sample they sent me. It shoots far better than it looks. It fed anything I put into it and no failures. I fired over 500 rounds before I sent it back to them. DAMN, I wish it had failed so I could say something bad about it. There are a lot of pure junk guns out there in this price range. I can't put them in that catagory after what you read here, and see with actual experience. It's not a trendy state of the art shooting machine. It won't make a fashion statement at the range, and you won't be KEWL, but some folks are on a very low budget and not everyone can afford a $500 gun. The Hi Point guns seems to offer a viable (but not ideal) solution for those that are limited on income. One thing you may not notice is the guns are not well suited for concealed carry. They are slippery and not very ergonomic for that. That was done on PURPOSE. It was designed for inexpensive home protection/merchant related uses. For that it may also do well. 0 -
Hello, I was watching an old COPS episode, they were in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. The usual, except they had one guy with a gun in the crowd. Wouldn't you know it, he had a Hi-Point. Looked like a .45 or a .40, could see it well enough to get a better ID. Just though I'd share that.

Yes, they be ugly but I went w/ a gal that was really ugly but it was a lot of fun.

I used to sell them, but had so many customer complaints about lousy reliability (fail to feed, fail to fire) that I quit carrying them. Newer ones may be different but basic design (blowback, zinc, striker arangement, and other problems) is so flawed that no one should bet their life on it working when they need it. Take the cash and buy a good gun. 0 -
