FAL scope mount question
What is the best mount for these rifles? I see the A.R.M.S. seems to be the most expensive and comes highly recommended, but is there something for less money that is acceptable. B-Square is way down on my list of favorites and I've read a couple of negative comments about them but they seem keep selling, so is the complaint legit or is the snob appeal factor in play. I only want to mount scope long enough to determine most accurate load and will then go back to iron sights. Therefore, I don't want to spend more than necessary but obviously a crappy mount is a waste of time.

I have a B-Square on an FAL that I have shot quite a bit without problems. The big difference in cost is between the aluminum ones like B-Square, and the steel ones. Be carefull that you buy one that will allow you to remove the bolt without removing the scope mount. I have just installed a Tapco mount on a L1A1 Century Arms rifle. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet, but it fits very well. It is also aluminum and is made in China. A lot of the mounts just slide on in place of the receiver cover. I don't think this is stable enough for good accuracy. I want one that clamps tightly to the receiver. Both the Tapco and the B-Square do that. 0 -

A scope on the rifle won't do anything for accuracy. Good ammo, good trigger and breathing control and a steady rest when sighting in, will. Changing sights will also change your POI and you'll have to re-sight in with the iron sights. Save your money for a good spotting scope. 0 -
As far as raw accuracy goes, you are absolutely correct. A scope does nothing for the barrel, trigger, ammunition quality, etc., and ones shooting mechanics. However, IF YOU CAN'T SEE IT YOU CAN'T HIT IT!!!! The scope allows a MUCH better sight picture when initally working up loads that a rifle will shoot most accurately. Then one can go to a sight of their choosing. I know that the average military rifle is not capable of extreme accuracy, but certainly using a scope allows me to acheive the best accuracy the rifle is capable of. Perhaps you would care to enter a Bench Rest match with your iron sights against some of the shooters that are using, say, a 36X scope. Without a doubt their rifles are VERY accurate, but the maximum accuracy cannot be realized without the scope. My question was not whether to mount a scope or not, but rather, what was the preferred mount. Therefore, please stick to the question.
