To leupold or not to leupold?
Is there a beter scope out there for under $500.00 than the Leupold var-x III 3.5x10 50mm. And do I really have to get a one piece base. I've shot my favorite buck under the scope with my mountless see-through rings.

Leupold var-x 111 is a great scope for the money...so is the Burris! Only had one Leupold ever go bad and that was when I put it on a Warbird...lotsa recoil! I like the Swarovski's for a heavy recoil gun. A scope is only as good as the mounts....buy good ones! 0 -
i just purchased a .308 mauser sporter with that exact scope. everything i read in my research adds up to it being the best scope you can by for the money. mine is put on with weaver two piece mounts. i cannot wait to shoot it, and see if the scope lives up to its accolades. best regards, mike.

If you're looking for a great scope under $500, I'd suggest giving some thought to the Zeiss Conquest. I tried the Zeiss Conquest after much due diligence on my Thompson Center Omega this past season. The black powders create a tremendous amount of recoil, especially if you're shooting 150 grains of powder, as I am. This scope has held up for me through probably about 100 shots and a hunting season where it took 2 whitetails. I am a very big fan of Leupold, Zeiss, and Swarovski and I gotta tell ya, for the money, the Zeiss Conquest is a killer deal. You should be able to pick it up in a 3.5x10x44 for just over $400, and I really think you'll have all Leupold has to offer and then some. I have to agree with the guys on the importance of good bases with whatever you choose. I tend to use Leupold rings and bases and have never a problem, even in the larger .300 caliber guns. Just my opinion, but I own and use all the above optics, and you will not go wrong with any of the above mentioned, but if you want to save a buck or two and still get great optics, the conquest by Zeiss is the best deal available to you in my opinion.

Leupold. I spend about 120 days a year in the woods guiding clients for brn bear, blk bear, mt goat, etc. and have seen all scopes fail. Even the German"Z" word ones[ they don't have enough eye relief anyhow]. Of the guides I know we all use Leupold. 0 -
leupold is all i can say these people stand behind there product 100% also has anyone seen the new scopes fpr 2003 all i can say is sweeeeeeeeeet any ways i have a leupold on my .308 and can put them in the ten ring all day long at 500 meters [:D][:D][:D] 0 -
The Burris Signature would be a top contender if I were selecting. Burris is a tad heavier, very well built, but has just a bit less eye relief. 0 -
You somewhat get what you pay for, but in your price range you should get a good one. I like the expensive European ones, but my favorite one is still a good ol' Leupold.
I have them on several of my rifles. Leupold for mid to upper end rifles, Simmons for cheap ones.
Besides, it's American made - need I say more?

Weaver Gram Slam are nice. Track very well for adjustment.. a round 275.00-300.00 look in ebay for deals 0
