FRENCH FOLBERT?
i have aquired one of these rifles and know nothing about its history,worth etc... cant find it in any books, got lucky and saw a picture of one and was able to i.d. it. i need to find some parts for it, but dont know where to begin to look and i dont know what model it is . it has a couple of un-identifiable marks on it, the only one i can make out is a ;star above the letter Y. the one i saw a picture of was called a french folbert boys rifle. mine is a .22 cal? single shot,oct. barrel. can anyone give me any info on this gun?...thank-you in advance for any responses!

The Flobert may be Belgium rather than French; and parts for them show up on the E**** auction site at least once a week. I've a 9mm single shot and was able to get parts for it (hope they work!). Good luck.

Flobert developed the BB cap in 1835, this cap and the longer CB cap are still being made today. They use a rim fire case with a bullet,but, no powder and were used in small, light "gallery" single shot rifles and pistols. Flobert made these guns from 1835 to 1857. In 1857 Smith & Wesson brought out the .22 short rimfire, which was a further development of the Flobert cap. After this date Flobert rifles and pistols were made in a number of rimfire calibers. These guns were made in both France and Belgium, however, Flobert was a Frenchman. These guns are not very strong and should not be used with high velocity cartridges as the only thing holding the breach block shut is the hammer resting against the block and the hammer does not lock the block as it does in the Remington Rolling Block. These guns were made up to about 1910 and maybe a little later. I have two of these guns, a rifle in .22 long rimfire and a pistol in 4mm short. 0
