Hevi-Shot Choke
I recently read an article about Hevi-Shot and it mentioned that Remington and Hastings make a special turkey choke for use with this type shot. Can not find them in any of my catalogs. Does anyone have a source or info? Has anyone had hands on experience with these shells and chokes?

Yep I agree, Id be interested in knowing also. I have a remington xtra full on my 11/87 Im gonna try shooting them thru that first. I hope that is ok. I did see some new long ported Remington chokes at Wally World yesterday, they were in the counter and as usual nobody was around to help me!

guys this is something I've been looking into, from what I've been told at different gun shops and from reading I would not suggest using a xtra full , most people I talk too say to start off with a Mod choke or Maybe to try a Full but nothing tighter, I guess the Hevi-shot is so hard that it has a hard time passing thru too tight of choke

Pa - Be sure your extra full choke is marked for steel shot. I read that lead only chokes are not for hevi-shot. 0 -
It is marked not for steel shot! Guess Id better do ssome investigating before I shoot any.

Can I use my current Remington shotgun/choke with new HEVI-SHOTr Turkey Loads?
Yes.
Remington has extensively tested HEVI-SHOTr shells through various Rem-Chokes. The top-selling choke, diameter and resulting HEVI-SHOT pattern percentages are as follows:
Ventilator (.655") 87% 30" circle, 40 yards
Full - Lead Only (.691") 88% "
Full - Lead or Steel (.691") 88% "
Turkey Extra Full (.687") 92% "
Turkey Super Full (.665") 93% "
NEW HEVI-SHOTr (.675") 94% "
Tighter chokes than .665" do not improve pattern percentages to any extent and in fact begin to produce more open patterns.
HEVI-SHOTr shells can produce cosmetic rub marks in barrels and chokes, simply a change in surface finish. Over an equal number of rounds, this rubbing is similar to that experienced with steel shot. Both materials create more choke strain than lead shot due to a more solid payload. With the Remington wad column, the HEVI-SHOTr pellets rest on a cushioned pad in the shot container that allows the pellets to flow better through the choke. In addition, the Remington HEVI-SHOTr shot container is much thicker than previous HEVI-SHOTr loaded rounds and that thickness minimizes pellet contact with the barrel or choke.
Under laboratory test conditions, Remington has fired in excess of 500 rounds through each Remington choke tube offered, including Ventilator (.655") and "lead only" full (.691") without any dimensional changes being encountered. With the limited number of rounds used in normal Turkey hunting, Remington's testing represents many lifetimes of reasonable gun use.
Can I use other manufacturers' firearms / choke tubes?
Any modern shotgun, in good working condition, designed or recommended for use with steel shot, should be suitable for use with HEVI-SHOTr shells. We recommend that a consumer contact the manufacturer for its recommendation.
As a result of our extensive testing, we believe that the limited number of rounds used in Turkey Hunting is unlikely to create any more than cosmetic rub marks on chokes not rated for use with steel shot. However, the manufacturer of the choke tube should be contacted concerning its recommendations regarding the suitability for use with Remington HEVI-SHOTr loads.
How does HEVI-SHOTr pellets pattern in tight Turkey Chokes?
Tighter, up to a point.
Because of the superior ballistic performance of HEVI-SHOTr pellets, an increase in pattern density versus lead will occur, especially beyond 35 yards. When choke diameters are tighter than .665", pattern density begins to degrade.
HEVI-SHOTr pellets will produce the tightest patterns through a choke of approximately 0.675" diameter + .005". In laboratory testing, a standard full choke (.691") produced an average pattern density of 88% in a 30 inch circle at 40 yards. The I.C. choke (.718") produced an average of 70%, considered to be the industry standard pattern density for "full" choke.
Remington's new HEVI-SHOTr extended Turkey choke tube has been optimized with this 0.675" diameter to consistently produce incredible 94% patterns.
Will HEVI-SHOTr ammunition damage my Remington shotgun?
No.
When used in modern Remington shotguns, in good working condition, Remington HEVI-SHOTr ammunition will not cause choke wear in low volume usage such as Turkey Hunting. However, cosmetic rub marks will occur. Remington's guns with fixed full chokes will show similar results.
Remington HEVI-SHOTr ammunition utilizes our super-tough, high density polyethylene shot container that minimizes contact between HEVI-SHOTr pellets and the barrel and choke. In addition, the pellets are cushioned at the bottom of the shot container to allow them to flow through the choke more easily.
For waterfowl hunters, where the shell usage is generally much higher, Remington recommends using chokes recommended for steel shot pellets. That is - skeet, IC, modified and full - "lead or steel".
What after-market choke tubes are suitable for use with HEVI-SHOTr shells?
Any choke tube that is manufactured from high-quality steel, such as stainless, should be acceptable for use with HEVI-SHOTr shells. Choke tube manufacturers such as Rhino, Patternmaster, Carlson's, Truglo and Trulockoffer Turkey choke tubes that are suitable for use with HEVI-SHOTr shells.

I have been shooting Hevi-shot for three years. Every sice Invirometal came out with it. That is who Remington bought it from.
I have killed geese at 82 yards. Coyotes at 60 yards. My best patterns have come from the M.A.D. Marsh Master, And my Benelli modified.
Have had horrable patterns with tight chokes.

i have a 835 mossberg with a MAD choke in it constricted down to .680 and this thing throws one hell of a pattern i shoot 5's in the 3 1/2 inch magnums man what a rush to see what this ammo can do[:D][:D][:D] 0 -

Dear Timothy,
Thank you for your inquiry. You should only shoot HeviShot through a choke that is rated to handle steel shot. We acheived our best pattern results using the .675 HeviShot Choke tube.

I recently purchased some Remington Hevi Shot Magnum turkey loads. I have an 11/87 with a Remington xtra full choke installed! The choke is marked not for steel shot. My question is can I shoot this ammunition safely thru this choke or should I look into installing a different choke?
