9mm pistol magazines
Hi all! im thinking of using .40 s&w magazines in my 9mm pistols (for more than one reason). the mags fit perfectly, and rounds are pointing nicely into the chamber, and cycling works fine! does anyone forsee long or short term problems with this?

It depends on the model of gun, some use the same basic mag, some do not. Certain brands just have the witness holes in a different location on one caliber versus another. In other cases, the feed lips are noteably different and will initially or eventually have feeding problems. Time will tell. 0 -
Beretta M92 and M96 magazine bodies are exactly the same. The only differences between a 15-round M92 magazine and a 10-round M96 magazine are the follower length and spring length. I am told that a 10-round M96 magazine will hold more than ten rounds of 9x19 ammunition without any modification at all.
The interesting question to me is, if one loads more than ten rounds of 9x19 ammuntion in a M96 10-round magazine, has one "manufactured" an illegal "large capacity ammunition feeding device?"
What, if when cleaning one's pre-ban 15-round M92 magazines and one's post-ban 10-round M96 magazines, one were to mix up the components so as to accidentally assemble a post-ban M96 magazine with a pre-ban M92 magazine's spring and follower? Has one "manufactured" an illegal "large capacity ammunition feeding device?"
I suspect that Taurus 9x19 and .40S&W magazines exhibit the same characteristics as Beretta magazines. I know that Smith & Wesson 9x19 and .40S&W magazine bodies are NOT the same, so as to prevent the mixup of parts mentioned above. I am not sure about SIG, H-K, etc..0 -
I have also heard this about the Beretta mags. I know for sure Sig mags aren't intechangable. The .40 mag body is wider and won't go into the mag well of a 9mm.

i plan to use this in a glock 19. i havent had any problems with is so far. and shh....it holds 15 rounds b/c of double stacking w/o modification. same with ruger 89's, and HK usp 9's. 0 -
Isn't the .40 slightly longer than the 9mm? I was told that I couldn't use my 10mm mags in a .40, even though they are the same diameter, but the 10 is longer. I called Glock directly and they said DO NOT interchange them.

That said, I've never tried them. If they work and feed reliably, why not?
It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...0 -
Actually, it's the 11-round Beretta 96 mags that hold 15 rounds of 9mm. Since both are hi-cap, you aren't breaking any laws interchanging them, as both are therefore grandfathered in.

Have been using factory .40 cal mags in my 9mm P95 with no problem but they will not fit my P85.
