Scope for .44 magnum pistol Choices?

A friend of mine recently bought a Simmons prohunter scope for his .44 magnum pistol. I was impressed by its low cost, optical clarity and lifetime warranty. Anybody have any positive or negitive stories about this scope? I have always relied on Leupold, Burris or Nikon for my scopes but Im wondering if I should try the Simmons.

  Have you considered a red dot scope for the .44 mag??? I have a Leupold Stevens Red dot on my Super Redhawk and it works really nicely even out to 100 yards for target acquisition. If you consider this as an option, it's important that you choose the dot size according to the type of hunting you will do, in close, medium range, or longer range, all dictate the size of dot needed. Variable dot scopes are available, but are usually a little more. Nikon makes a variable dot scope that I have on my Super X 2 turkey gun, and I adore it. I like this as an option because target acquisition is simple, field of view is awesome, and the unlimited eye relief is unsurpassed by any scope in my opinion. But to answer your original question, money is well spent on good optics. I truly believe that good optics on a bad gun, make a better gun than the other way around. I don't know much about simmons because the least quality that will ever be mounted on one of my guns is a Leupold, but preferrably Zeiss or Swarovski, probably not for a pistol though. I would probably recomment the leupold extended eye relief for you if you want my opinion.

  For super fast target aquisition and great accuracy try a Bushnell Holosight! With a 1MOA dot (get the standard reticle which has the 1MOA dot inside a circle) you can get extremely fine with your shooting compared to using the larger 4-6MOA dots found in most red dot type optics! Eye releif does not matter with these sights as they work from 3 inches to however long your arm is! That's why they are so versatile! GHD
