Worth of Colt Detective

Whoops. I erroneously asked this on the Discussion Forum first. Got a First Edition .38 Spl. Colt Detective at a gunshow this past weekend, which was out of time. I gave it to my favorite gunsmith Monday. Allowing for the needed tweaking, what would such a weapon bring in your area?

  Good point. It's in 99 +% condition, except it does not have Colt grips, but rather something with an escutcheon that looks like a Mexican Eagle.

  p.s. Gee, I wonder where I could find some Colt Detective grips?

  Detective Special Pre-War (1st issue) - .38 Spl., 2 in. bbl., blue, wood grips, square butt standard through 1933, round butt standard 1934-36, last patent date on bbl. was Oct. 5, 1926. Mfg. 1927-46.
  
  95% = $550
  98% = $695
  
  Add 20% for square butt.

  Xracer - Thank you. If the smithy gets its insides timed, and that's all he finds, sounds like I got a bargain. Especially if I can get appropriate grips. That's one of the things I love about this site: good info and willingness to share it.
