Ruger Mini-14 Magazines
Which magazines will function properly in a Mini-14? I know that Ruger made high capacity magazines for the Mini-14. Why did they not make high capacity magazines for the 10/22? What magazines should I stay away from?

They made high-caps for the mini's because they made some variants for law enforcement and they also tried to sell them to the military (among other possible reasons). I guess they didn't ever see the need to make a .22lr hi-cap since there was no LEO markets for it. I agree, it was a big mistake. Think of all the money companies like Butler Creek, Ram-Line, and others made off of hi-caps for the 10/22...

Hate to say this due to the current prices, but the Ruger mags seem to function best in the mini's and PMI mags come in right behind them. If you're looking for Mini mags E-mail me and I'll give you a link to site that has the best prices on factory hi-cap Mini mags that I've been able to locate.

If you can afford it buy factory mags. After that anything is a crap shoot. 0 -
I have found the Thurmold mini 14 mags work well. Strangely enough the Ramline mags work well also. They are fragile but fit and feed well. My 2 cents. [8D]

I had bad luck with the Ram Line mags, they would feed 4rds and tehn stove pipe. You might want to buy one of each until you find one that works. Don't run out and buy 4 or 6 of one kind.
Here I'll save you the cost of the mags & the frustration.
If you want High Cap mags get an AR.

On a lark I bought six each of those nickle Wilson Mini-14 20&30 rd mags for $6.00 & $9.00 each on a special offer a while back. Two of the 20 rd mags work great although not a crisp fit while the rest would feed a few rounds before a jam. I got what I paid for, junk.
A fellow who is a regular at the range asked if he could have the mags to work on them. Three weeks later he showed up with the mags and said "now try them". All of them the 20 & 30 rd mags functioned and fit perfectly. He asked $35 for costs and time. He had worked on the metal for a correct fit and replaced the springs.......what a difference.
I have bought a few more of the Wilson mags since and have had the same mods done...........they seem to work well so far. At least some junk can be made to work with a little modification.

Pro-mag is suppossedly in line to make mags for Ruger. I have some mini 14 mags from them and they seem to work pretty well after some breaking in. However, I have a pro mag ruger p90 8 rnd clip that will only feed if there are 5 or less in the magazine. Rugers are tempermental. www.fourfourmag.com has some good selection.

Factory or PMI's for the Mini....anything else will just try your patience.
10/22 mags are real hit and miss. I finally gave up and sold all the Hi-caps I had for my 10/22's when the price went out of sight. None of them were reliable enough to be fun to shoot. Factory 10 rounders only for me.
