Don't know about the Remington stock?
Use to sell them in the early 80's under the Smith & Wesson name, also sold under Weatherby (Vanguard) and Mossberg names. Never heard a bad word about them. Every person That I knew who had one was pleased.

I have several Howa's. They have been some of the most affordable and accurate out of the box rifles I've ever had. I would not hesitate to buy another.

I have stated many times on this board that Howa's and Savage's are the best gun for the money in todays market. I still stand by that.

    Measure twice, cut once.

The Howa 1500 has a very different action than the Remington 700. It is well designed and flat on the bottom. It will not fit a 700 stock, at least not as a drop in. I bought my 1500 as a barreled action, and you may still be able to do the same. Boyd's www.boydboys.com has several stocks to fit the Howa, and likely make the pepper laminate you are looking at. I put mine on a laminate JRS Classic. You won't be sorry you bought it.

The only Howa i ever owned was a S&W 1500 in 300 Win. mag. It would group 3 shots in a half inch with Rem. 150 core lokt. I still am asking myself why i didn't keep it.I definately would try another, and when i see one at the right price,i will.

Howa's are good to go out of the box. I bought a 270 and it is the best gun for the money that I have ever owned. Love those Japs!

Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!

Have a Mossberg 1500 30-06 made by Howa and would like a better stock than the hardwood that came on the Mossberg. Any ideas where to look?

Sure, take a look at www.boydboys.com They offer stocks in several configurations in walnut and laminates for the Howa. I believe they are producing the laminates for the current Howa offerings. I particularly like the JRS Classic.

I have two of three S+W 1500 which is the same action as the Howa. I sold the 243 only because with 308's around ammo mix up could be a problem (if it can happen it will happen). I still have the 223 and it is a tack driving little runt that shoots and shoots and shoots and all go in the same hole (darn near). The 223 has taken whitetail deer, coyote, badger, etc etc. The 308 is an out of the box sniper rifle. It has taken many Mule deer, whitetail deer, coyotes, antelope and a moose. Bang and you hit what you aim at and it goes down. Howa by what I have heard is the same thing and you will not be disappointed. Shoot straight.
