1903 Springfield date
A friend just picked up a 1903 Springfield. Has a "C" stock, blued
but looks like original bluing and not a reblue. Ser.# 1,229,***.
Barrel has the "flaming bomb" and HS 44. Is this 1944 barrel
correct for this ser.# rifle?? Or maybe a rebarrel?? Thank you.

re barreled. I dont have my book handy but the gun should be somewhere in the mid-late 20s. The gun was originaly dark parked almost black. If arsenal refinished it would be parked anywhere from green to gray to black??? With that late a barrel it should be a good shooter.... 0 -
According to Brophy, the rifle was made in 1921. The type C stock came out in 1929. So, the rifle was restocked in 1929 or later and was rebarreled in 1944 or later. 0 -
