Shotgun Experts/Turkey Hunters -- Choke Question
I have an Ithaca 37 that I bought new on 1/1/2000. I am buying the Turkey Retro-Kit for it this week. I want to use Remington Hevi-Shot to hunt turkey in Nebraska this spring. However, Ithaca does not make chokes that are rated for steel which is a necessity when using Remington Hevi-Shot. Does anyone know of an aftermarket Turkey Choke that is rated for steel in a WIN-CHOKE configuration? Ithaca told me on the phone that their threads are compatable with the WIN-CHOKE configuration.

isdman75, go to www.nitrocompany.com and give these guys a call. They probably already have a load configuration to match your gun. They are quite likely going to suggest a rhino choke for your gun, and the loads by Nitro Ray are out of this world. I've shot Nitro ammo for the last several years along with my buddies, and we all love it. The load I currently shoot is a 12 ga. 3.5" load that has #4,#5,and #7 shot in it. The nitro loads are much more lethal and a whole lot faster (fps) than the factory loads available. Also, most of the (fps) ads you see on factory ammo are tested out of much longer barrels to "hype up" their loads. My nitro loads absolutely devistate a target at 40 yards, and I don't advocate shooting turkeys at ranges much past 40 yards, but how many times have we shot at birds that we thought were 40 yards and then step it off to find the bird was over 50 yards? This is where custom loads really stand out, they hold up to much longer distances, especially when using the heavy shot loads. Ray at Nitro not only loads hevi shot loads, but he coats his pellets also to reduce friction in the barrel and deformation of shot.

I appreciate the help but I plan to shoot loads that I can buy off-the-shelf at my local sporting goods store. I'm planning on giving Hevi-Shot a try. The sources that I have found on the internet can't seem to keep in stock the choke tubes that were specifically designed for Hevi-Shot. 0 -
Try some Remington Premier copper plated lead turkey loads.I like the no. 5's.You won't need a special choke tube. 2 ozs. of shot.The turkey will not know the difference,and after you pull the trigger,won't care. 0 -

I managed to find what I am looking for. Ithaca is not listed but I know that it has the Win-Choke configured threads. Would I select the "BROWNING/WINCHESTER/MOSSBERG" option?
JustC--BROWNING/WINCHESTER/MOSSBERG were not sepearate options. The were on the SAME choke tube. I am guessing that Browning (Invector, not Invector Plus), Winchester and Mossberg (500--NOT 835) all accept the Win-Choke configured choke tubes.0 -
you would choose winchester.
take a goog hard look at the patternmaster chokes if they are avaialable in winchester threads. I have taken turkey at an honest 50yds, stone dead, with that choke and a 3" shell.

Look in march American Rifleman maybe feb. good write out on choke tubs, had write up on Hevishot, it can be used because of the plastic cup protected bbl. and tub from contrat with shot 0 -
