S&W Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman ?

I have a S&W Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman in .357 Mag.The gun is in 90% unfired condition.I found the production Dates and other info on the Revolver.But I can not find out what the -2 is about.I would appreciate anyone who knows what it means to share it with me?

  might be so minor you can't tell it what it is.
  BTW Does it have a pined barrel?

  The dash-number behind S&W model numbers indicate minor design changes, such as changing from 4-screw to 3-screw and changing from 6 1/2" to 6" barrel.

  The 27 came out in 1949 with the "S" serial prefix. In 1955 the upper sideplate screw was eliminated. In 1957 the model number (27) was stamped on the gun. In 1960 the ejector rod was changed from right to left hand threads; model number 27-1. 27-2 came about in 1961 when the cylinder stop was changed and the triggerguard screw was eliminated. The 27-2 number remained for other changes that took place in 1969 when they went to the "N" serial prefix, in 1975 when target trigger, target hammer, red ramp/white outline sights, Goncalco Alves stocks and case were added and the 3&1/2 & 5" barrels were discontinued. 27-3 changes took place in 1982.

  Rugster.... The model 28-2 came along in 1961 until 1982 when the 28-3 arrived.
  The -2 guns had cylinder stop changed, and eliminated trigger guard screw in 61
  deleted diamond grips in 1968
  changed to "N" serial number prefix in 1969
  
  I have 2 model 28's, a 4" and a 6" and they are really nice guns.
  They were developed for law enf who wanted a less expensive version of the model 27, so the 28's have a dull finish and dont have the fancy checkering on the top strap.

  Sorry about that, for the Model 28 (Highway Patrolman):
  1954 serial number begins with "S" @ S103500.
  1955 @ serial number S171584, sideplate screw deleted.
  1957 Highway Patrolman continued as Model 28 and 28 stamped on gun.
  28-l, 1960, ejector rod thread changed from right hand to left hand thread.
  28-2, 1961 the cylinder stop changed and the triggerguard screw was eliminated and in 1969 the serial number prefix was changed to "N".
  The 28-3 in 1983 eliminated cylinder counterboring and the pinned barrel. Your revolver has a pin in the top strap above the crane and ahead of the forcing cone; this is what is refered to as a "pinned" barrel. The pin should show on both sides of the gun and is approximately 0.06" in diameter.

  Thank you all for your posts.
  Now I know more about the 28-2 pinned "N" series .357 that I have. Bought it two years ago including a western holster for under $200. I thought I got a good deal then,now I know I did.[8)]
