Hypothetical Mini 14 question

The thread about the Mini 30 got me thinking of a gun I saw a while back. It was a Mini 14 with an aftermarket folding stock. Let's say I bought it. When I buy it, I assume it is peban and the stock was installed before the ban was enacted. Now I get it home, do a little research and find out it's NOT a preban. If I buy a new full non-folding stock and replace the folder, am I perfectly legal?

  Yes you are assuming that it does not have a flash supressor or other of the evil ban items that make up an assult rifle. A folding stock is one of them. Hypotheticly speaking. [8D]

  According to the wording of the 1994 "assault weapons" ban, it's illegal for a rifle to have been manufactured after Sept., 1994 with more than one of these: Telescoping/folding stock; protruding hand grip; threaded muzzle/flash suppressor; bayonet lug; grenade launcher.
  
  So if your gun has only the folder, and none of the others, it's fine.
  
  (boy, do I miss those grenade launchers)

  Gonna disagree with ya lobster. A folding stock would add 2 of the evils. The folding capability and a pistol grip. Those features in addition to the ability to accept hi cap mags makes it a no-no.

  Well hypothetically they can take their No-No's and shove em - Oh is this the wrong forum - I'm sorry did I say that out loud[:D][:D] - I would make sure it has the politicaly correct features as prescribed by our liberals who are scared of such things, because it makes them piddle in their bloomers - then they send out the JBTs to your house and take everything away from you. Ok - done ranting for tonight.....

  Down here in this part of the country, we fortunately don't have to worry with such inconsequencial things. Most of the local ATF guys are gun nuts and unless you are showing your a**, they really don't bother you. With as dificult as understanding the laws are and the hassle, It doesn't really make a lot of sense to generate problems where none exist. It's always easier to get forgiveness than permission. Perhaps the climate at Justice (Firearms Branch's new home) has changed. This bit really has nothing to do with the legality or lack thereof of your premise, just some thoughts.

  Well, sure, rmyer. We were assuming that the aforementioned folder did not incorporate the horrible pistol grip!
