With all due repect, your friend is ignorant, the Mossberg 835 is a fine gun especially for about $275. It may not have the finish or Benelli name, but it is a fine gun.

I don't mean to be cute but... does your 835 kill duck and geese effectively? If so, then if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have shot a Benelli Super Black Eagle for a couple of years and it did not kill them any deader than my old Mossberg did. It does shoot a lot sweeter but the ducks and geese are no deader. JM2CW

My friend also got a Nova, even though a year ago he said it looks like crap and he wouldnt buy it. Well he bought it and loves it. It is a great gun and well priced. Like your friend, he made some stupid comments about how my shotgun sucks. All I said is every hunting season my shotgun has never failed me and always killed the ducks. Like 257izmycal said If it aint broken dont fix it. As long as your shotgun makes the ducks or whatever you shoot dead its perfect.

They look like crap, there made of plastic, I think there junk and I heard they kick like a horse. ALso it doesint matter what gun you have, its whos shooting it. You could kill a duck with a pellet gun, its all about the shot you put on it.

They have a metal steel frame that is embedded in plastic. They do not kick like a mule. I shoot 3 1/2 in mine and have the recoil reducer but don't use it as it makes the gun too heavy. I have also shot thousands of round thru it at sporting clays with no excessive kicking or any other problems. They are pretty much indestructable and tear down completely without any tools.

I love Benelli, I've had several and currently my only 12 guage is a Super Black Eagle. I wouldn't trade it. However, comparing the two you mentioned... You ALREADY have the 835 and you seem to like it (enough to take it hunting), tell your friend to shut up and hunt, he's scaring off the ducks. [;)]
Seriously, if you were just buying a pump that'd shoot the 3.5" magnums, I'd recommend the Nova, but since you already have the 835 you are already familiar with it, you might know of any quirks it has, etc. I wouldn't change... My 2 cents worth. (wow, counting up all the people that gave you their 2 cents worth, you have enough for some bubblegum). [:D]

It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...

I had a 870, and sold it to get a Nova. I wanted to be able to use 3.5 shells if needed. As far as recoil goes, the 870 and Nova are almost the same. I did put the recoil reducer in, and it works very well. I havn't had any problems with it so far, about 1000 rds fired. The only drawback I see are getting accessories for it. I want to get a mag extension, and can't find anyone who has one. I heard they are making a 4 shot in the future.

Here's the deal, both you and your friend have an inexpensive version of what I'd call a very effective duck gun, especially in my part of the country with the salt water, etc. The Mossberg is not the finest quality, but I got news for your buddy, he ain't doin' much better. Why dont you ask him to explain to you why the Sup. blk. eagle is $800 to $1000 more than his nova. There is only one problem with common sense my friend, " It ain't all that common". I would have at least a browning gold, super black eagle, super x 2, or anything but what he's got before I'd go callin' yours a piece of junk. It's obvious that he's reading way to much into the name on his gun, not reality. By the way, I've got the winchester super x2 in "nwtf" camo in a 3.5" 12 ga. and a browning gold 10 "gunner", and I gotta tell ya that my old mossy 835 ulti hangs with both of them at 1/3 the price of either, I think you're a pretty smart guy, ol' boy....... Hope this helps...........
