Marlin 38/55 Win
I'm looking to buy a Model 336 Cowboy in a Marlin 38/55 Win. I want a gun different from the 30/30 but still with open sites and a lever action. I love the look of the Cowboy model. Can anyone tell me how the 38/55 Win shoots and will it work as a good deer gun.

I have two customers that have them and both say. With factory loads they are very accurate and the recoil is mild.Because of the older guns I find the factory ammo has been loaded very mild.Makes a good deer gun even with the mild factory loads.

I have a Marlin 336CB, 38-55 and it shoots Winchester factory loads very well. However, I handload my hunting ammo a little stiffer. If you do not handload check out www.buffalobore.com as they make both jacketed bullet ammo and lead bullet ammo that generate 1900 fps and 2044 ft. lbs. of energy. These loadings should be safe in your rifle as it is new and your bore diameter should be .379 if it is like all the other Marlin 336CB rifles I have checked. If you will notice, these energy figures exceed both the 30-30 and 35 Remington so the 38-55 will work as a good deer gun if you do your part. 0
