Bushmaster Bullpup
I need info on removing the carry handle ? There is one Allen screw that is accessible from the top but I cannot see/find another ?

In general, your swinging from one extream to the other! Everyone I have talked to (myself included) needed some type of sighting system for it ... it has sights but for all practical purposed they are useless ... a red dot or halo sight works well. It has a 20" tensioned barrel you can expect MOA accuracy once you get used to the trigger which is long and heavy and a little spongy due to the linkage used. It can use all AR mags and hi cap drums ...

I was just wondering things like is it comfortable to shoot, accurate, easy to handle, reliable and things like that. I have two other questions,how much did you pay for it, and are you happy with it.[8D]

I sold a Bushmaster M17S to a gentleman several years ago and he loves it. This was a preban rifle with a flash hidder and a slightly longer barrel than the model sold today (at least I think this is the case). I have fired it myself and I am not all that excited by its layout or handling, but these are personal opinions. Over all the rifle was nicely put together and I never noticed any real flaws in fit and finish- very nice quality. Take down is very simple and involves pushing out two pins, pivoting the upper receiver open and taking out the bolt assemby- which looks a lot like the bolt from an AR-180. My friend has a ELCON sight on his Bushmaster and accuracy is excellent. I am not overly fond of the control layout and like all bullpups it balances toward the rear. This makes for fast pointing, but makes shouldering the rifle feel less natural to me.
My own choice would simply be a Bushmaster AR in any configuration that best suits your needs. Remember that if you go with the bullpup you will have to factor the cost of some type of optics and rings into the total cost. I don't like anything from Ruger with the exception of their .22 target pistols (and I don't even own one of those), so I am the wrong one to ask for any Mini-14 opinions. By the way Darrell, ask as many questions as you like. This is why we are here...otherwise we just have to keep our opinions to ourselves and that is no fun at all!

I'm not going to buy any type of "assault" type weapon until next year, so when the stupid 94 crime bill summits, because its gonna mess the whole preban gun price thing up real bad, but new assault weapons with all the goodies will be able to be produced and for the same price as current post ban config guns. 0 -

I'm a fan of the bull-pup designed rifles and have several including the Bushmaster ... never met a bullpup I didn't like the looks of, but some do shoot better than others.
The bullpup is very easy to handle and carry at the ready; I really like the pistol grip and the angle of it, and to me its comfortable to shoulder and shoot, fortunately the .223 is a mild calibur so the butt doesn't leave its corragated pattern on your shoulder[:o)].
The biggest problem I have with the M17S is the aluminum receiver heats up around the barrel during rapid fire and can get really hot ... its well balanced so one handed shooting isn't out of the question. Side vents might help the cooling, top vents would be nice too but the heat could distort your target image if you like to burn off 30 round mags.

Darrell2k3 - Are you on drugs? I would not consider either of these rifles "all purpose". I would consider these weapons to have a "very specific purpose".

Kimberkid is correct about the heat issue. This is one of the draw backs to this rifle. It is indeed a composit from the AR180/18. The Britiush SA80 dirivers its heritiage from the AR180/18 and the bushmaster bullpup. Another issue for the bullpup is its weight. This can be a plus or a minus. The Bushamster bullpup shoots very well and it is compact. All of the stock AR type rifles shoot better than the stock Ruger Mini types. My 2 cents [8D]
