choice of 22-250 rifle

I am interested in buying a 22-250 for varmint and coyote hunting in Central Texas. I have narrowed my choice to Savage 112FV or a Hoya 1500 in the laminated stock. Frankly, everything I read about the Savage is positive except its appearance. Between these two rifles, which one would you chose?

  Hi d,in my experience I found out when I purchased a varmint barreled rifle,all I had to do was carry it one time and I was tired of it.If you're shooting from a bench or truck hood ALL the time they are ok though.I think you'll find just about any rifle in 22-250 caliber will shoot really well.Good luck on your choice and hunts.Bob.

  I would say that the scope is the more important decision you have to make here. My friends and I do a lot of plinking and reloading for our 22-250's and I gotta tell ya, scope is everything especially if you're gonna be shooting past 150 yards. If you like winchester, the model 70 heavy barrel varmint is an awesome gun. I personally have a Ruger K77 VT varmint rifle an absolutely love it. It comes with a laminated stock, and a free floated stainless heavy barrel factory. I load my own loads for it, and I gotta tell ya that I've had no problem achieving 1/2" groups regularly with it at 100 yards. I'll never forget, we had a nice quiet day and shot clay pigeons at 400 yards with much success. My Ruger has a Leupold Vari X-III 6.5x20x40 on it with a 4 inch sun shade and it really does well for me. The leupold is the least quality I would suggest for these guns, you must have good optics on these guns. I'd rather have a "decent" gun and an "awesome" scope any day. You should be able to get the gun for around $550 and the scope is going to run you about $550 also, but it's a factory set up that's ready to go for you. Another nice thing about the Ruger is the fat beavertail stock that steadies up awesome if you are going to use a bi pod, it's a nice tight fit in a sandbag also. I hope this helps........

  Get the Savage http://www.savagearms.com/ Savage has a new fully adjustable trigger. I have heard before that Savage is not the best looking. Here is a picture of a Savage 112, looks fine to me.

  Between the two you listed, the savage... That said, I like the Remington VSSF model the best.
