Reloading 28 Ga.
I shoot 4 rounds of skeet per month from my Ruger O/U with 26" bbls.Am considering reloading for this 28 ga.Am looking at the Mec 600 jr.Are the charge bars that are supplied with it what I need to get started? I am looking for your advice on the best load as far as cleanest powder, charge weights for the powder and shot, best wads and amount of pressure to apply. Will be using AA hulls only.Any and all advice you can give me is sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

The charge bar will be set to drop a standard target load of shot (been a few years since I loaded 28's so I don't remember the exact weight), and it comes with 3 (as I remember) powder bushings (extra bushings are cheap).
Every MEC I've had came with loading manuals, that will give you the recipes to go with the hulls your using.
I'd suggest that you start with Winchester AA28 wads and # 9 shot. Pick a powder (and charge) from the manual, use the chart to decide which bushing you need with that powder/charge.
FWIW I've found that I had to move up one size in the powder bushing to get the actual (scale) weight to match the manual (built in safety factor?).
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Prescott Pete, I have been using a 600 to load 28 guages for approximately 20 years. It is a 3/4 oz charge bar, #19 bushing which gives 13.0 grains of Herco powder. Using AA hulls and wads and it has been about the only load to ever go thru my 1100 with the exception of some factory loads in #6 shot. Has worked ok for me. GHD 0 -
Hi Pete,if you get tired of loading for or shooting the Ruger 28,I'll be happy to take it off your hands,Bob. 0
